About Me:
I am not a great knitter, but I love to knit and adore my finished projects, flaws and all, because they remind me of the journey, and where I was, in my head and heart, as I knitted. To me, knitting is a process thing, and, even when folks make fun of my somewhat bizarre left-handed technique, I still love it.

Knitalong Socks

Finally I am traveling down the foot of my third pair of socks -- the ones for the knitalong here on Knitpicks. I am using my first set of Knitpicks circular needles (the metal ones) and I am loving them. The tips are just perfect! What I am wondering, though, is how many pairs of socks it will be before I get through the heel flap, heel turn, and gussets without making numerous mistakes and having to take the socks off onto extra needles and put them back on my main needles again and again. The… Continue

At last, on my third

That second pair of socks took forever it seems. Finished in mid-June. I think the problem is I went to size 0 needles to make gauge, I thought, but in retrospect, size 1 would have been more like it. It takes a long time to knit a pair on size 0 needles, and the socks are a little snug, whereas on size 2's they were a bit loosely woven, I thought. The current pair is part of the sock knitalong and it is on size 3's and probably too loose a weave, but going very fast. Does anyone else have such… Continue

Done at Last 4/4/08

Last night was the last meeting of our two socks on two circular needles class at Sophie's Yarn Shoppe here in Louisville. The teacher Elise gave me the final piece of the puzzle -- the Kitchener's stitch. I came home and at last finished the socks. Slipped the pair on my feet immediately after they were free of the needles and felt the rush that comes from putting on your first pair of hand knit socks. They are dreamy! I plan to start another pair immediately to solidify the process, but the gr… Continue

What a wonderful field trip. My less than $10 yarn swift works great -- I feel so smug about it. Yes, the 0's may be bit smaller than I need, but I figure once I have done these, then any size larger will be easier and easier! I need to get some soft white wool for my socks in the knitalong. What class?? I am sure you told me, but I have forgotten. Yes, we are very lucky.

Wow Liz, those are tiny needles. I start my class this Fri. Just came back from Nashville, Ind. Had a good time. Was able to go up to Sheep Street. It's a sheep farm up in Martinsville, Ind. Bought some sock yarn & some yarn that was spun on a drop spindle by women from Chili. They go behind the camels & pick up the wool. Also they pluck the wool off the camels. The women live in huts with dirt floors. How lucky we are!!!

Finished my socks on 2 circulars. They went so fast. Casting on sock #2 of JeanTownsend pattern. The pattern is cute.

I am impressed -- a mirror. Now that is brilliant! Wish Mom had done that, but I don't think she thought of it. You managed to reverse the reversal.

I am curious: what is a "left handed technique? I am left handed in most things i do, but i learned to knit, sew etc right handed from ma grandmother eons ago. I tried to teach my daughters to knit, only one took it up. For now she is much too busy with her 3 sons and baby daughter. By the way all our 3 daughters are lefties. Sons are right.
Talk to you later if you like.
