Long Time No Blog...

I just haven't had a lot to blog about! I finally went and was checked for carpal tunnel, apparently I just have a mild case... if the pain and numbness I feel is mild, I don't want to imagine what severe is. I will say this, the doc must have a very high opinion of herself to charge $233 just for talking to me for MAYBE 10 minutes. I am truly disgusted with that. That does NOT include the testing for carpal tunnel, which was another $500+. Good thing she isn't also a cardiologist, I hate to thi… Continue

Back from DC and Almost Breathing Again

I know, I know, I haven't posted in almost a month. In the meantime, my oldest graduated from 8th grade, I took him and his younger brother to DC for the National Science Olympiad Tournament (which included 3 mornings of 'up at 4:30am', ugh!) for a week (although the tournament is only one day, two if you include opening ceremonies and the trading frenzy), concessions at a gun show, and two cpr classes. While I was packing my carry-on bag, I discovered how much I love my Knit Picks needles; I se… Continue

Rain, Rain, Stay Today!

Whoo-hoo, it's raining, and has been off and on since yesterday; I know some are suffering through floods, but out here, rain is so desperately needed. Living in Montana, I finally understand the term "high desert', but this week we have finally greened up and my flax started blooming yesterday, and I think my scabiosa (ugh, for such a pretty flower, the name sounds like something contageous) has spread (okay, now it sounds REALLY contageous!). The only thing I hate about rain is that I now wear… Continue

Bees, Baseball, and Socks!

Woke up this morning to a phone call from hubby's beekeeping partner, the bees should be home this evening. I still want to know how come THEY get to winter in California while I have to stay here and freeze my tushie off... hmmmm... or should that read 'buzzzzzzzzz'... Anyway, got home tonight from baseball and there the hives were, home again for the summer (assuming summer really will get here; remind me I said that when I am melting come July). My son's first game was a bomb, they got creame… Continue

The Lambies that Bloom in the Spring, Tra La!

Lambing is in full swing and hubby has started to move them to the pasture below the house. Most are still at that awkward, boney-looking stage, but soon enough they will fill out and look huggable. Then the fun begins, where they stand on their snoozing mothers (who are laying down) to get a better view of heaven knows what, and start to band together. They gather in a group, one runs off about 25 -50 yards, looks around as the rest follow, then pretty soon one runs back to where they started a… Continue

As regards a pic....I'm technologically challenged, and haven't a suitable camera; I'll try. A

Having ripped and restarted, I went to bed last night with almost 6 inches (almost double the "acreage" for yarn used) and a happy experience. Now and again, you just got to cut your losses. Alma

I'm SOOOOO sorry....this afternoon, after having dropped one stitch and spent 25 minutes trying to retrieve it (that's almost a half-hour!) I decided that life was too short, and ripped out all 3 inches; I decided to try the zigzag socks which would also showcase the striped yarn, and am flying along (comparatively speaking). The tube socks were very tricky to manipulate, with 4 needles and a tapestry needle (standing in for a cable needle, as I couldn't find one thin enough). When I've mastered the Magic Loop method, I'll probably revisit these, but knitting is relaxation for me, and these were not relaxed socks!
So tell, what took you from Greenwich to Montana? I came, with my husband's work, from England 22 years ago, on a 9 month contract! Alma

You are welcome! And I am inspired to try one of those sweaters with the beautiful yokes, like yours! I have a leaflet for Lopi with a selection of the pretty yoked sweaters that I have been interested in for some time and I hope to make one when I am ready to work on a sweater again (knowing it will take me a while to finish it...).

I am impressed with the numbers of your sheep! I have an art background and I can imagine they would make a good subject for sketching and painting. When I was growing up, my neighborhood was surrounded with sheep and cow pastures. I loved seeing the animals. By the time I was in fourth grade, all the animals had been sold off and the pastures turned into streets with housing developments.

I'd love to hear more stories about your life with sheep! How many do you have? I've entertained the thought of keeping a few alpaca here...but I'm sure my husband thinks chickens are enough. My silkie chickens have feathers that are so soft, that sometimes when I pick them up I imagine how soft a sweater made from silkie down would be. If only there was a way to make fiber from feathers....

In response to your question about why try double-points-I just want to see how it works. I bought the new Harmony needles because they looked so pretty. They are and have wonderful sharp points, but while swatching with the zeroes, one snapped in half, so I may not last too long with DPs.
