Hi,
To tell you a little about myself...

I'm a divorced mom of a 15 yr old daughter. She is great! I am an application developer at a large company (Abbott Laboratories) based in North Chicago, Illinois. I have been working on my Masters degree (MISM) through Keller School of Management since January 2005 and am currently in my LAST class. The class ends Dec 21st - my x-mas present to myself. :-)

My knitting experience:
Let’s see... Many years ago when I was little, my grandmother taught me the basics of knitting, crocheting, and needle point on plastic canvas. Then for many years I didn't do any of it. Once my divorce was done and I was out on my own, I taught myself how to knit and crochet again. It helped me get through the shock of not winning custody of my daughter. I was the one to pay support and get visitation, but at least it was still joint custody. Anyways... the knitting and crocheting was helping me to get through the quiet lonely nights and to help me calm my nerves. I have been knitting and crocheting ever since. It has been 8 1/2 years since I started back up with my "crafty" skills.

Last year I started a little group at work to meet at lunchtime to knit (I taught several of them). I created a pattern for a "sampler" block afghan. I thought the blocks would be small enough to not seem like such a large project to the new knitters. The blocks are only 4 separate styles/patterns. One was just garter so they got practice doing the casting on, the knit stitch, and then the binding off. The next one was the stocking knit to introduce the purl stitch. The third was the Moss stitch to show simple variation of the knit and purl stitches. The fourth is the seed stitch. We choose 3 different colors and decided to do each block in each of the colors for an afghan of 12 blocks. The afghans are still in process. I did add a different block for mine because I wanted to try something new. It is made of the popcorn - I think - stitch.

Wow, didn't realize I was going to talk to much. I guess I should start my blog and put more in there. hehe But it might be done in spurts due not having much spare time because of my homework/class project.

See you around...

~Becky

Maternity tops to knit?

Hi everyone! I was hoping someone might know of some patterns out there (free would be nice) for simple maternity tops. I have just tested positive and my approximate due date is Aug 28th but I don't see my doc for the first time till Jan 28th. I was hoping to find some patterns to knit up that I can wear. I guess I'll also be knitting some 'little' projects too. :-) Thanks, ~Becky

Got my new swift and ball winder today!

I got my new swift last night. Now just waiting for the ball winder. I know what I will most likely be doing this weekend. I have some really pretty pale yellow very fine (lace weight??) yarn that I picked up about 4 or so years. Haven't done anything with it yet because it is in 2 hanks and I didn't want to attempt to put it into a ball and make a big knotted ball/mess. So it has sat there waiting for me. I bought it to make a lace shawl out of it. Even bought a book with the shawl in it (but n… Continue

Blog Postings...

I have just started to really use blogging. Unfortunately, I have 4-5 of them (MySpace, Live Spaces, Blogger, here, etc). I wish there was a way to just make one blog posting and have it post to all of them. My favorite so far is Blogger. If anyone knows of a way to do what I'm looking for, let me know. Anyways... Happy Holidays to everyone and Happy Knitting! ~Becky

Rip! Rip! Rip!

I was about 3/4 finished of the second Fisherman's Mitten (fingerless gloves with a cover over the fingers) with only the finger tips and thumb to finish. That is when I noticed I was doing the right hand version again. I had to rip all of it out down to where the thumb gore starts so I could move it over 16 sts, making it the left hand version. Ugh! So close to being done, now so far away... lol Once I am done knitting them, I get to felt them to fit. Can't wait to see how they turn out. They… Continue

Hey Becky! If you're looking for a project that involves a steek, try checking out the Aguona Laptop Kit. We also have a video on reinforced steeking - this is the method I use for all of my sweaters, whether they're wool or not-wool.

Hi Becky - Wow! you have many accomplishments that you should be very proud of! It is wonderful that you are also taking time to share your talents with others. Your afghan project for the new knitters was a wonderful idea. Something like this allows them to do as much or as little as they feel capable. When I saw that you were from Gurnnee it reminded me of one of my really FUN summer jobs! Many years ago I worked at Marriott's Great America. (In the "Centennial Circus" which was part of the "county fair" area of the theme park) I remember that some of my friends chose to work in the one in Gurnee, while I chose the Bay Area in CA. I'm pretty sure the theme park is named something else by now... (if it's even still up and running!) Ah! to be young again! I know that i've already posted about your kitties but I think I must have placed it incorrectly. I had just mentioned that both my mom and my sister have Devon Rex kitties..... they seem to have much less hair than yours though! Your babies are beautiful and I already know that they must be the perfect companions as they have to be one of the most devoted animals I've every come across!
