For a long time I looked at the Knit Picks yarn catalog with suspicion. I wondered how such inexpensive yarn could possibly be of good quality, given how much other sites charged, and I kept my credit card in my purse, thinking I'd have to wait until some reliable knitter I knew vouched for your product.
Then you came out with your first podcast, and your warmth and expertise won me over. I knew no one so passionate about knitting could endorse a bad product. I took the plunge, ordered a box-full, and was thrilled both with the product and the speedy service. Now almost all of my yarn comes from Knit Picks.
Thank you for your podcasts, without which I would never have tried your yarn. I look forward to every new episode.
You made my day!!!! I am extremely proud of our yarns and I am thrilled that you are now enjoying them! I don't blame you a bit for being hesitant about the quality/pricing ratio. You would smile if you saw what our poor yarns have to go through to get approved around here. Nothing like a dozen, very picky knitters to make for harsh critiques. Well, at least we know only the best gets through the scrutiny! :)
Hi Kelly
Just listened to your podcast with Gale Zucker. I was happily walking along, listening to her telling all about the farms and ranches she had visited, as well as her camera advice, when I almost tripped upon hearing about one of the farms that I knew! I live in W.Penna and have been several times to Autumn House Farm! I know both Harriet and Ken Knox and my knitting group has stayed at the Shepherd's Rest several times. We have been through her whole facility and have watched the shearing and sorting of the sheeps and lambs. I also have a sweater I made almost right off the back of one of her sheep. I saw a fleece I really liked, she had it sheared, we picked it clean and ran it through the combing machine, and then Harriet spun it for me. A friend and I designed a sweater that is published in one of her pattern books, with me in the picture as the model. If you get a chance to go to either the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival in early May or the Rhinebeck Festival in October, Autumn House has a big booth with gorgeous yarns and things, look for the crowd.
I really enjoy your podcasts and they help keep me inspired to knit on!

In a podcast some time ago, Kelley mentioned some software that she uses with her Palm Pilot. I'd like to go back and listen to that again, but I can't figure out which one it was. Even just the name of the software would be helpful. Thanks.
Just want to thank Kelly for all the hard work that goes into her podcasts. Love to listen to her and have just ordered the sock blank and the dye sampler, as her podcast on them was so enticing! Have also bought books based on her reviews or author interviews. Keep up the good work! I tell people all the time what a great resource the KnitPicks site is. Besides having quality goods at reasonable prices! jtrknit
Hi, Kelly! I just found your podcast last week, and listen to back-to-back episodes at work and while driving (already at episode 26). Terrific content, and I like the short musical interludes dividing the topics.
I heard the interview with Vicki Square, and was so excited. I found her book on my own, and love all the patterns. It got me thinking of all the creative ways I could work with kimono as a base design - and that's exactly what you talked about in the podcast!
I was also excited to find that you are responsible for Connecting Threads - I am a big fan of your catalog and website.
thanks so much for all you do (I don't know how you have the time). You inspire and enable many, and that has to feel good.
Looking forward to all the rest of the 'casts until I catch up with you.
Hi Kelley,
As someone who works in the media and does radio, can I just compliment you on your delivery? There are a lot of yarn-related podcasts out there and yours is easily my favourite. I enjoy the variety of topics you cover, the book reviews as well as product announcements and histories. (Well, my husband would argue that I perhaps enjoy them TOO MUCH, because I usually express my appreciation with my credit card). But I digress.
My favourites (I have the entire season of podcasts saved on my computer and plan to burn them onto CD for posterity... and sharing purposes) have been (in no particular order): knitting for charity, sock blanks, dyeing, knitting on a budget, etc. Heck, I like them all!
One thing I'd like to suggest if I may be so presumptuous: Your instructions for dyeing the sock blanks as well as hand-dyeing all involved inordinate amounts of plastic. In a world that's already so full of waste that will never decompose, do we really need our hobbies to contribute as well? Especially since having a tarpaulin or one dedicated garbage bag (that you can rinse and reuse) would be so easy and really not more time-consuming. As for using plastic wrap while steaming yarn... maybe ziplock bags? That can be used at least several times before they hit the trash?
I would never ask people to curb their enjoyment of life (and particularly YARN!), but perhaps we could be more responsible about it?
And I'd love to hear a podcast on sustainable or environmentally friendly, socially-conscious knitting habits. I'm sure other listeners will have loads to contribute on the subject.
Have a wonderful day and keep those podcasts (and all that yummy yarn) coming!
Geeta
I've listened to a few podcast so far and I love them. My fav. is the interview w/ Stephine Pearl-McPhee. It's nice to put a voice to the pics. and all the books. (which I have all) Keep up all the good work! And, keep the podcast coming! -jo
Hi Kelley! I wanted to take a moment and thank you for the wonderful podcasts! I get something out of each and every one of them. If you aren't teaching me something new, then you are inspiring me in my knitting, or helping me to build my knitting library.
I especially loved the podcast on I-cord magic, very helpful and informative. Thanks so much!!!!
Tammy
Just wanted to tell you I love your podcasts! I learn so much. Your voice is so smoothing and relaxing to listen to. I grasp each word when you teach something new about knitting. It is so nice to get away from the hectic world and focus on something so wonderful as knitting. Best to you-Karen
