Perhaps the reply from dscales was posted to my question by mistake? I received an email letting me know there was a reply but this information does not match the pattern I'm referring to. Please let me know if you need additional information.
I received the error correction from the author, Berta Karapetyan, yesterday. On page 60, you do end up with 102 stitches (medium, add 2 to the rest) on page 61 after the increases. Then you do the middle increase and SKIP the end increases that are done AT THE SAME TIME. That section should be skipped altogether. Hope that helps someone else in the future!
Hi,
Has anyone done the Grace Tank pattern? I am using the Main Line yarn and have 2 questions. First is the gauge. The pattern states the gauge for size 7 (or adjust as necessary). I am knitting my swatch and have had to go down to size 5 and to get the stitch gauge and I'm still 1 row short for the row gauge. I'm wondering if this is ok. I don't want to decrease needle size again because I'm afraid I'll have too many stitches per inch. I don't want to start the tank top until I get the gauge issue resolved.
#2 - the measurements are for 34" then 38". I have recently lost a bit of weight and would really like to do the pattern for 36". Is there any way I can adjust the pattern? I'm worried that the 34 will be too small and the 38 too big. (I know, lose more weight..:)
I love the yarn and my new harmony needles I purchased and am so glad I found this site! Thank you in advance for your help.
Have you blocked your swatch? If you're using Main Line, my guess is that you'll be able to block it to the appropriate row gauge. Also, try washing your swatch the way you'll launder the final garment, then check your gauge again.
With the sizing, it really depends on how fitted you'd like the tank to be. The picture of the Grace Tank shows it worn with positive ease - an inch or two of extra room so that the garment skims over the body. When you make a fitted garment that's supposed to stretch over your body, you use negative ease and knit the garment at one or two inches *smaller* than your measured bust size. If I had a 36" measured bust and wanted to make the tank, I'd decide how I wanted the tank to fit and then choose the appropriate positive or negative ease, taking into account the behavior of my washed and blocked swatch (cotton tends to stretch out and doesn't have as much memory as wool).
You could also alter the pattern to create the 36" size - you would have to calculate the values for the stitch counts (cast on edge, binding off for armholes, neck width, any shoulder shaping) that fall between the two sizes.
I am loving the book sale - my birthday was last month and I am finding too many things to spend my gift money on.
I am interested in joining the sock knit along. I need to buy all my materials - yarn, needles and book. There is no info on what materials go with the book. With your (wonderful) free shipping offer, it would be most helpful if there was a section on each book page that listed materials needed. If that would be possible, it would certainly be wonderful to place one order and have everything you need to start knitting in the box! Otherwise I need to order the book, then reorder materials. Just a suggestion for your already wonderful site!
"No Stitch" in the charts indicate that the stitch that was there in a previous row has been eliminated with a decrease or bind-off - leaving the current row with fewer stitches. The dark grey box in the chart is a placeholder for that stitch to keep the overall pattern looking 'right'. So, skip right over these boxes and continue with the next stitch designated.
Can anyone tell me if the 2-at-a-time Socks book contains patterns using worsted weight yarn? I've just finished my first pair of socks from Socks Soar On Two Circular Needles book in fingering weight. Now I want heavy winter socks, and would like to try the two socks on one long circular.
In the KnitPicks free pattern for boot socks (two at once on TWO circulars) the guage is 18 st. in 4 in. (4.5 st/in) on size 5 needles. When I swatched it (in Lamb's Pride Superwash because my KnitPicks yarn hasn't arrived) I had to go to size 9 to get that guage. Will this work for socks? I've only been knitting a couple years, and my understanding is whatever needle gets the guage is what you should use, but I'm concerned that the socks will be "airy" with that guage and this yarn. It definitely looks looser than I think it should to get the guage. They're winter socks, and I need them warm, and I'm stuck. Help?!
