I like to wear my socks short so I've never knit anything that even went half way up my calf. A friend of mine asked if I could knit her a pair of knee high socks and I'm wondering if there is enough yardage in a skein of Risata to knit a knee high sock? Would 2 skeins be enough for a pair or should I get a 3rd skein?
I purchased 2 hanks of Alpaca Cloud, Horizon, which has been discontinued (it is beautiful yarn). It is a little fine for the project I planed. I need an additional hank or could you suggest another yarn or color I could add to it, two strands of lace weight will work (I think). I plan to make the Shetland Triangle from the book Wrap Style.
Oh, that's a beautiful shawl! Since it calls for fingering weight, I think you could definitely double-strand lace weight yarn for it. If you're interested in finding another hank of Horizon, you could try signing up for Ravelry.com and searching their destash/for sale board. If you wanted to try a different lace yarn, take a look at Gloss Lace in Mermaid - it's the closest coordinating color to Horizon - or any Bare lace weight yarn.
I wanted to knit a blanket that KP did substituting for a while back and now I can't figure out which yarns were used. It was the "Family Affair" blanket from Yarn Girls Guide to Beyond the Basics. It was knit double with Suri and something else. . . Anyone?
I'm currently working on a shaw using the Suri yarn. I'm only about 1/4 way finished, but I'm not too thrilled with it. For a bulky yarn, it is very thin with fuzzier areas all along the strands. I initially tried making the Suri Dream throw/afghan, but it felt too light weight, so I am trying the shaw. The yarn is beautiful, and the colors fine, but the fuzzy texture make it hard to find a good project to use it for.
I also agree with you. For a bulky yarn it is very thin. I think the fuzzy makes a bulky weight. I like the idea for a shawl but I think the fuzzieness would make my nose itch.
I also agree the colors are beautiful I hope I can find something to make with it. As we are on a tight budget, and I had to save for the yarn. Oh well it will look good in my stash.
