Last week was soooo cold. How cold was it, you ask? It was below freezing! And the wind chill factor brought the temperature below zero! Yikes. So I am knitting....a shawl. It's a pattern I bought from Susan's Spinning Bunny (I think that's the name). The patterns is named: Faroese Shawlette, and it's very simple. All you need is a pretty yarn, and you let the yarn do the work >^_^< This is the second one I'm knitting. I knit the first for a friend. I used a merino/bamboo blend in a black cherry colorway that was absolutely gorgeous. I am knitting myself one now out of a dk sock yarn in a tropical storm colorway that suits my coloring (I'm a "winter").
The big non-knitting news is that three schools in my school district are rumored to be on the chopping block. The teachers have been working without a contract since August, and the parapros are in danger of losing their jobs. You can probably tell that I work in education. There is a chance that I will lose my job to someone with more seniority. If that happens, I will be sad to leave, but I will be grateful for the time I had with my colleagues and my students. I will regret the loss of yarn $$ (and college tuition money for my children), but I have a sizable stash of both yarn and fiber, and I have three spinning wheels, including an antique wheel from the 1840's (family heirloom on hubby's side), an electric wheel, and no end of drop spindles (low tech and lovin' it!). I also have an enviable collection of patterns, so I'll be able to keep myself busy. I like to knit gifts, and I'll knit shawls, stoles, and scarves for my friends.
The board of education is meeting tonight, so maybe I'll find out if I'll be doing more knitting and less working, or more working and less knitting. We shall see...
