Knitting Community

It's finally been heating up a bit here in the Pacific Northwest, and at least in our office as the temperature rises everyone's thoughts seem to turn to lace and socks. I guess knitting sweaters and lugging around half-knit wool afghans just doesn't seem very appealing when the thermometer hits 80 degrees.

To celebrate the long, lazy days of summer, we're releasing a free sock pattern once a week from now through August.
You can find the first one here- http://www.knitpicks.com/patterns/Butterfly_Garden_Sock_Pattern__D5.... You can check the free patterns page for the newest addition every week OR you can become a fan of our Facebook page and we'll send you an update with the latest pattern once a week.

If you haven't knit socks before (like me!), think about joining a knitalong or checking out our tutorials.

Ooooh, socks in the summer! Thank you for the beautiful butterfly pattern, I think it is just the right thing for the Essentials Kettle-dyed Eggplant that I stashed last month!

And I wanted to give you a note of thanks--a while back I ran across the blog post you had last fall that linked to a Harry Potter Ravelry group and also listed all the KP yarn combos that worked with Hogwarts House colors. I joined that group and chose to knit a pair of socks in KP Essential Kettle-dyed in Wine and Gold. I used a Charlene Schurch slipped stitch rib pattern, and as it was "homework" for Arithmancy class, it included striping in Fibonacci sequence. It was also the first pair of socks that I completed using Melissa Morgan-Oakes 2 At a Time method...but it all came together and was fun. The socks had to be completed within the month of May and "turned in to the Professor" (i.e. a pic posted on the thread). The socks look so nice on my KP sock blockers that I still haven't taken them off! Imagine my delight when I went on Ravelry tonight and found that my socks were selected as one of the top projects for that class. I just had to share a picture with you. By the way, I had knit one other pair of socks with Knit Picks (Felici), and now I am very spoiled. I've got other socks I'm working on with other very well known and loved brands, but none are as soft and lovely to work with as the Knit Picks (really, not trying to suck up, just have to share the love).

That's a fantastic idea! I'm about to start on my first pair of socks. I've got the yarn and now I'm deciding on the pattern.
