Knitting Community

It's finally been heating up a bit here in the Pacific Northwest, and at least in our office as the temperature rises everyone's thoughts seem to turn to lace and socks. I guess knitting sweaters and lugging around half-knit wool afghans just doesn't seem very appealing when the thermometer hits 80 degrees.

To celebrate the long, lazy days of summer, we're releasing a free sock pattern once a week from now through August.
You can find the first one here- http://www.knitpicks.com/patterns/Butterfly_Garden_Sock_Pattern__D5.... You can check the free patterns page for the newest addition every week OR you can become a fan of our Facebook page and we'll send you an update with the latest pattern once a week.

If you haven't knit socks before (like me!), think about joining a knitalong or checking out our tutorials.

Ohhh! I'm jealous that you are working with City Tweed! It looks so wonderful. I just turned the heel on my first sock, and am about to start the ankle chart. I am working with kettle dyed essential in Jay, and the colors are beautiful. I think I am going to keep the "firsts" of these socks for myself... :)

Ah, yes, I got an error trying to download Busy Bees as well. I'm impressed that you're making progress on your butterflies, imaknitter. I haven't even started. (I'm trying to work on my City Tweed sweater now that our weather has cooled down a bit.)

I am so excited about the summer of socks! I tried to download busy bees this morning though, and an error keeps popping up. Just thought you would want to know...
My butterfly socks are coming along nicely, and I can't wait to keep adding to my collection. Thanks again!

Butterflies! How perfect for summer. I downloaded it immediately. Whoa, not that experienced with chart work but am a darn good sock knitter, so I may have to challenge myself here. Great looking socks though!

love the socks. would have a problem with the fibonacci thing as i am math challenged. but i would definitely make these. just got the blue lagoon sock cocktail kit. dont know which i will use first. also got cookie a.'s book. i must say, her patterns are somewhat daunting; but im going to tackle one just as soon as i finish my soon-to-be granddaughters blanket in super soft comfy sport.

I love the idea of socks in the summer.... so perfect! I'm working on my first Cookie A. sock and learning how to be patient and fearless at the same time. I do have my eye on those fabulous Fibonacci socks; what pattern did you use?

SarahD, I'm with you on the melting! whew! I usually look forward to wearing my cute, lacy hand-knit ankle socks this time of year, but the thought of wearing socks is a little to much for this heat! This is a great time to knit them, though - last time I did Summer of Socks, I managed to complete 21 pair. I don't think I could handle that many again, but seeing those Gryffindor socks and Nina's crazy Felici socks is really making me want to try!

It's "heating up a bit"? I'm in Seattle, and I'm melting. What happened to spring? I haven't been working on my City Tweed sweater this week because it's just too hot. Perhaps some nice non-wool socks would be just the ticket. Something silky that glides well through sweaty hands. I notice all the yarns suggested for the butterfly socks (very nice pattern, by the way) have at least some wool, but perhaps Risata would be a good choice for me. I haven't tried that one before.
