Knitting Community

Hi everyone! Hope your week is going well. Mine has been a busy one. Running here and there in my life in progress. Nothing to terribly exciting but the necessary life stuff. So we'll skip to the more fun stuff.

First congrats to everyone for completing their TdF goals. If you didn't complete your goals congrats on great spinning anyway. The pics on the Team KP were awesome!!

In the spirit of Portland's Sock Knitting Week I am devoting my free knitting time this week to you guessed it socks. Hope all our friends make it there safely and have a wonderful time. Please take lots of pictures to share with the rest of us green monsters that were not able to go. :D Seriously though I am so excited for everyone going. Its like the excitement you get when someone shares their KP packages they got in the mail. Its not for you but you are thrilled for them.

So this week's socks now dubbed my Sock Summit Socks are...

Stripy #2! My handspun KP roving dyed and over-dyed with KP Bare Stroll. I have turned the heel and decided to knit the foot in my handspun with the toes in the KP Bare.

My Serpentine Socks. Which I have now turn the heel on.

And DD plum tweed socks are coming along. Unfortunately with all the running around this week I didn't have much travel knitting time.

I ripped out my Inlay sock and just don't have the desire at this time to cast them on again. It will happen just not right now.

And as if three wip socks isn't enough I am tempted to cast on another pair of Ankle socks from KP Fancy Feet Anklet Kit.

I know I said it was going to be all about the lace after the TdF.  Right now knitting socks while hearing about everyone's Sock Summit plans and adventures just seems like more fun. Lace can wait a week.

So what do you say? A virtual Sock Summit party? Just because we are not going doesn't mean we can't participate in Sock Knitting Week. Right? No time frame, just pop in when you can. Anything sock goes. Spinning, knitting socks, knitting with sock yarn.....whatever.

Happy Knitting!!

I LOVE this since i'm still smoldering with envy for those that got to go to Sock Summit!

Knit4Many - what yarn did you use for your Serpentine Socks? Those are lovely! oooohhh that Plum Tweed is GORGEOUS! too bad it's discontinued . . . sigh.

Well, here's my contribution to the party (some are sneak peeks to my latest WIP - work-in progress - designs):

A = my "Hawaiian Tattoo Socks" in KP's Bare and Stroll Tonal in Blue Yonder.

B = my "Diamonds in the Rough Socks" in KP Stroll in Eggplant and Lantana (discontinued colors. 1st pass of the design. I am planning on making another pair to test the pattern again.)

C = this is one of my newest designs, still a WIP called "Smocked Socks".  I finished the cuff just after taking the photo today so I am now starting on the 2nd sock. This is KP's Stroll Tonal in Kindling and Foliage and I love the great 'fall' colors!

D = Also one of the newer designs. I've been working on this one since February and it's kind of challenging, but I am a bit crazy! This is my "TriColor Socks" and they are knitted with 3 (yes 3!) different lace weight yarns in Fair Isle knitting (I did say I was a bit crazy). The body of the socks have each color knitted as a single stitch, except for the toes, heel and cuff which are 2 strands held together. This is KP's Shadow Tonal in Canopy and Springtime and KP's Merino Wool lace weight yarn (white).

E = another version of my "Shamrock Socks" in Stroll Multi in Lucky and Bare fingering.

Enjoy and Party ON!!

What fun!! Please post pictures.* insert begging face* If you don't want to do a blog post. You can make an album here and then send us an e-mail so we can see. Or your more than welcome to post some pics here to share.

Thanks Wendy they are fun cheerful knit.

My standard weight yarn seems to be between a fingering to sport. I wonder thin I would have to spin for a 3ply sock weight. hmm....

SS is going well. I'm pooped! Met up with Peggy and Jo. Got some pics, but they are better at blogging than I. They got lots of fiber this year, spinning wheels and spindles( SS not those two). Got one of my books signed by Nancy Bush and Anne Hanson came up to me and said hi. Cant spin worth a dang but I can knit.

Quite honestly, I think I like the feel of the 2-ply better.  Though both are very soft and yummy!

Knit - what a good idea, a sock summit party!  I really like your stripy #2 socks.

Susan - your pink yarn is really very pretty.  So, do you like the feel of the 3 ply better than a 2 ply?  I only ask because this past Feb/March while spinning Bart the Sheep, I was able to do both a 2 and 3 ply yarn.  Really like my 3 ply much better - I think it feels so much softer, although I've no idea what I want to knit it into.

Knit... I think it will be somewhere between Worsted and HW... I always wash and block before I measure.  I've experienced major changes at this point.  It is 184 yards... 5.3 oz.

Glad you got some knitting time in... we have a road trip to the Columbus Airport on Sunday to pick up a neighbor...so if all goes well, I'll have 6 hours of uninterrupted knitting time... I'm on the foot of my second Jazzy Sock... wheee haw!

Great job Susan! What's the yardage/weight/wpi? Boy do I ask a lot of questions. I was able to get some traveling sock time in with all the running around today. So just imagine plum tweed a bit longer and getting ready to turn the heel.
