S and S

Yes, I have been knitting. I was waiting for my yarn to make my Cookie Sock Innovation Lindsay sock, and just didn't want to work on anything else. So... Knit4Many told me about a pattern she used and I liked it and had enough yarn on hand so I started here. I am knitting this Textured Shawl Recipe pattern in the new Comfy Bulky, in Cutlass.

Monday evening my yarn for the socks showed up, so I tried a test swatch - perfect! Then later the same day I cast on and did my garter stitch cuff - very nice, knit my set up rnd for the chart and stopped until morning.

Tuesday I discovered that the stitch count didn't add up right... so I stopped. Went back to my shawl and knitted all day yesterday. Then I discovered that there were errata/corrections already out for the Cookie A book, so I relooked at the pattern, made a few of my own changes so that I could continue knitting. Here is the sock, with three chart repeats - it is currently 3 1/2 inches long -- need 2 1/2 more inches before I start the garter stitch short row heel. Except for the problem with stitch count, this is a very nice pattern. And I love the little pops of color in the Essential Tweed - Inca Gold.

Interweave has not posted a correction fo this sock yet, but I predict they will. My fix (whether right or not) was to omit the yo's in the set up rnd.

Thank God for people who keep us inspired and enthusiastic about our knitting. I'm not big on self patterning sock yarn either, but this tweek has little pops of color... reds, blues, greens all through the yarn - it doesn't show up too much in this photo, but once I get it finished, I think the colors will definitely come out.

The shawl, while it IS being knit, is still a design in progress. I am nearly to the point of working the final section - a garter stitch section 56 rows long, but I have only used 1 1/2 of the 4 balls of yarn required, so I'm thinking of adding a little lace before I get to the garter stitch... I should decide on this later today or tomorrow.

Comment by Mrs. K on April 10, 2009 at 4:51am: Gosh, all this sock talk makes my fingers itch. Now all I need to do is find good, cheap sock yarn in ONE colour. I do like a nice self patterning sock yarn, but trouble with that is you won't be able to see any patterns on it itself. And I would just love to have a go at all the patterns I've collected (free from the internet) so far.
Can you hear the envy, Susan :) :) :) ? Your socks are so gorgeous and you're a big part of my "inspiration" (if you wanna call it like that).
And the shawl? AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH what a delight! Shows off your skills so well !!!
