I was catching up with the podcast today at work and caught the discussion about the hooded baby blanket. I am and was actually working on one while i was listening. I found the pattern online and am trying CotLin Key Lime. I have made one already with the manufacturer's suggested yarn and it is EHH.. I didn't like certain bits about the pattern and modified it some ( yet to wash it). I will update my Ravelry page in the next few days with photos.
Is the Cotlin yarn soft enough for baby? It is my first time knitting for babies
Great podcast! I have made many, many baby items (7 grandchildren and 3 steps). For our most recent addition, I made the Mason-Dixon kimonoes at Kelley's suggestion, out of Shine worsted. I made two and my daughter used them every day, one on the baby, one in the wash. Kept the baby warm and no need for blankets. To use up the skeins, I made washcloths for him and they were a great hit. Never thought I would ever knit washcloths, it seems like a waste of knitting time. But they are so much softer and nicer for babies (and everyone). Since he is now eating strained everything, my daughter asked me to make him more of the Mason-Dixon bibs and I just sent her a package of them. Again, something I would never have knit before. She says that none of the bibs she has bought come close to being as absorbent and covering so much of the baby. Best to ask the Moms what works!!!
Loved listening to these ladies and ideas for baby gifts that are useful and practical. I really like the legwarmers. I live in So CA and would love to convince new mom's these are wonderful on pants days without pants and easy diaper changing. My knitting friend and I talked that mom's from different parts of the country should tell their need for baby items in a book of baby item ideas for mom all over the US.
I need another KAL like I need a hole in the head, but maybe later on, "Knitting for Little Ones" KAL? I'm definitely putting the leggings on my list. I hope I'll need baby things in the next year. What fun knitting that would be! Thanks for another great podcast! --Peggy
