Entrelac and Steeking!!!!!

I think the thing that got me hooked was a worsted-weight pullover sweater made using only ribbing and kind of a waffle pattern. (I think it was K one row, K1P1 back.) There was no sleeve shaping because it was drop-shoulder, and kind of a boat neck, so easy to do. I couldn't put it down, and it was easy! --Peggy

I would like to learn how NOT to be distracted while knitting, since I am a new, very distractable knitter. I would like to try something that isn't a long rectangle (for a change!), so that I could get increasing and decreasing really firmly in my mind. Something that would be a just a teensy bit challenging, but still fun. What in the heck IS that project? It sounds like there are a lot of pros out there--what did you do to get to where YOU are?

I didn't see this one yet...but for me, it's intarsia. I think it's a really beautiful finished fabric-especially the felted pieces. Clearly I need to look up and research what steeking is as it seems to be hot. I'd also like to try some square knitting, again, it's a really beautiful technique that has been applied to so many different projects.

I have all this sock yarn and great books and yet I have sock knitting fear. I definitely want to make socks and then maybe couple of afghans for my chilly house.

There is no poll at the bottom of my page.........but even now, after knitting for more than 20 years, I'd love a good refresher on finishing techniques! I am never satisfied with my finished product...........

Oh! I agree with Marianne! Crochet and knitting are cousins but too often crochet is treated like "a red-headed stepchild," as my grandmother used to say. They marry together well... I finish knit afghans with a crochet border, for example.

As for the question at hand, I want to learn to knit socks: two on one circular needle and using two circulars. I saw Cat Bordhi on DIY network's "Knitty Gritty" making a sock using a unique heel construction technique I'm dying to learn. I have her book... maybe we can have a Knit Along using that book sometime?

I've never made socks but I love the idea of doing two at the same time so I have a complete pair when I'm done! I'm ADHD and can just see me finishing one sock and never doing the mate!

After tackling socks, I want to master lacework! And then make some lacy cuffed socks! LOL!

I would like to learn steeking. Before the end of 2009, I plan to have tried one!

Since January 1 I've done my research, selected a pattern, chosen Kettle dyed Eggplant yarn, and done my swatching..... I'm ready to try two at a time on two circular needle socks..... I made my first sock this summer and it was a splendid success. Unfortunately, it's still waiting for a mate. Lesson 1 for me: do not do a sock with a leg and instep of K2,P2 ribbing! I'm going for a pattern pattern instead! Lesson 2: A 'volcano twist' red/black sock looks GREAT worn with a black sock for a mate.....
