Mr. Foster Halloween costume contest!

Mr. Foster likes to plan ahead. It's only July, but he's already wondering what he should wear for Halloween this year.

He thought you guys might be willing to help him out. So here's your mission from Knit Picks and Mr. F, if you choose to accept it-

1. Create a handmade Halloween costume for Mr. Foster using yarn or fabric. Store bought accessories are okay. You are allowed to base your costume on an existing Mr. Foster ensemble, you can get those patterns here for only $4.99 if you don't already have them (the monkey pattern is included too).

2. E-mail a photo of your creation to contests@knitpicks.com before August 31st.

3. Help Mr. Foster pick a winner. In early September, we'll post our favorites, and you can vote for the winner.

4. Check back October 1st when the winner will be announced. We'll also post a slideshow of all of the entries we received.

The winner will get a special Halloween treat from Knit Picks, no tricks, we promise!

Angela, I also sent you a message. Deb has a good point. How will we know if you have received our emails?

Okay, I finally got my photos sent in yesterday, now I'm wondering if someone sends an email that they received them? Or do I just have to wonder until the finalists are announced?

Wendy, I had more of a "real" studio in the last two houses we lived in. One was a very old farmhouse that had a "front parlor" and a "back parlor," so one was the living room and the other my studio. It was 13'x17' and a perfect location. I managed to fill it to capacity, between the drawing stuff, the knitting and crochet stuff, the weaving stuff, the sewing stuff and a few other toys as well. Then we moved, and I started out using the smallest bedroom for my art, but the other stuff got stashed in other places. When I started eyeing my dd's loft, my mom suggested I move it all to the almost-finished room in the basement instead. That room was about the same size as the previous studio, and worked very well. Here my only option is a 10'x12 foot bedroom, which is why I've overflowed into the "guest room." If we ever have overnight guests, I'll be in big trouble ....

By all means, turn that junk room into your own personal work space. It does make a difference!

The weather has moderated a bit, and while it will go back up, we *may* be past the triple-digit temperatures for the summer. I hope.

Deb,
The idea of a 'studio' is soooo appealing! I know you need a studio for your work - but it sounds delightful. For a long time I dreamt about owning a yarn shop, with golden wooden floors, pale creamy - buttery yellow colored walls, lots of natural light, and tons and tons of beautiful yarn displayed about the shop in very artistic display cases. I even had the perfect location picked out (it was an old farm house that was slowly but surely surrounded by city sprawl and is now an interior decorating store. Everytime I drive by it - which is very often, I still think it would make the perfect yarn shop.) I no longer desire to own a shop, but I sure wouldn't mind working in one :o). I must admit, when I read about your studio, you definately started the wheels turning in my head about setting up something here at home. There are so many different things I am interested in and would like to try, that I think a studio would be perfect. I'm jealous, knitting cockpits, studios......maybe it's time to do something with that extra bedroom that never became a guest room - just a junk room!

I know what you mean about the southern exposure on the second floor. My oldest sister lives in Phoenix. We used to go visit her when the girls were much younger, and found that if we didn't take them to the neighborhood park before 10:00am it was just too darn hot to go. We'd spend hours in her backyard, under her huge canopy by the pool. The kids used to hide in her gigantic grapefruit trees and play for hours. And this was in April or May, not during the summer. So here's hoping the really hot weather won't last as long as normal, so you can get back to your perfect knitting place.

DH can come to he rescue when you least expect it, I needed a place to put my ball winder on , it would not fit on any table I have, he found the frame of a laundry basket the ones with three compartments, and got some plywood, and made me a table, wow just love it, the swifter and ball winder fit on the table, and some room to put yarn , etc on it and it can be picked up in no time, Irene

Wendy, if you don't have stash all over the house, you aren't properly indoctrinated. And I know all about trying to get girls to be organized--my DD used to just look into my studio when I mentioned cleaning her room. When she moved to her new home about a year ago, and finally collected most of her things, she left a large dresser and daybed in what's considered the guest room now. I immediately painted the dresser and put my stash in the drawers. Nice and neat, right? Until my LYS had a major clearance sale ... and then I went to Hobby Lobby a time or three ... and then we traveled, and I hit every yarn shop I could find. I, too, have *many* bags full of stash, both upstairs and down. I decided the daybed would be the perfect place to knit, just before the really hot weather hit. Of *course* that room is upstairs, on the south side of the house, and has two large windows, so I'm back to knitting downstairs for the duration.

Cheryl, I like the idea of using vases for knitting needles. We have enough allergies around here that I never put flowers in them anymore ....

Well I feel better now knowing that I am not the only one who has knitting paraphenalia sitting around the house. I buy a bag to organize myself, fill it up, get another one, fill that ....and on and on it goes. When we built our house I had a very long window seat built and lined with cedar to store all my yarns and other knitting things, but alas, it is full. I drive my DH nuts with all the stuff sitting around. I am working on my girls to be more organized, but actions speak louder than words, and they too now have several knitting - craft project bags.
I will have to see about getting the Ott light bulbs. Great idea! Thanks
