Mary Scott Huff Talk and Book Signing in Portland, Oregon 11/11/09

Hey Portland Area Knitters! We are having a local event, and we would love to meet you all in person!

Local author, Mary Scott Huff, is releasing a gorgeous new book, The New Stranded Colorwork, and we are so excited about it that we are organizing an author's talk, trunk show, and book signing to celebrate. We have been fans of Mary Scott Huff's designs for awhile. She designed several exclusive Knit Picks patterns such as the Selbu Blazer, the Lace-Rib Shrug, and the Empress Pullover.

But The New Stranded Colorwork celebrates Fair Isle knitting. She has patterns for women, men, and children. There are both sweaters and accessories. And Mary Scott Huff's signature is rethinking traditional techniques and motifs to create new, fresh, and whimsical designs that stand out in your mind until they end up on the top of your knitting queue.

The event will begin with Mary Scott Huff's talk about knitting color work and her new book, and that will be followed by a book signing. Books will be available for purchase directly from the author at the event. Select garments knit from patterns in the book will be on display, along with a selection of Knit Picks yarns that we recommend for colorwork. You can see all 83 colors of Palette in person! There will be prize raffles throughout the evening for Knit Picks yarn and each of our interchangeable needle sets. And after all of that inspiration, we are offering a special promo code for event attendees to get 10% off of their online yarn purchases with Knit Picks that evening. Bring your knitting and have fun!

The event will be held on November 11th (that's Veteran's day) from 7-9 pm. We are holding the talk in the Billy Frank Jr Conference Center on the second floor of the Ecotrust building in Portland's Pearl district. The address is 721 NW 9th Ave Portland, Oregon 97209.

We hope to see you there!

Angelkarhu,
The Ecotrust building is directly in front of the streetcar stops at 10th or 11th and Johnson (depending on whether you are heading north or south). And the streetcars are easily accessible from Max stops and the downtown bus malls. If you go here: http://trimet.org/ you can plan your trip with public transit. Also, since the event is on Veteran's day, all street metered parking will be free.

Mary Scott Huff is going to be a guest on an upcoming podcast, and we'll do a recap of the event on the staff blog the day after, so there will be some online content for those of you who aren't in the Portland area.

I wish I could be there! I ordered that book on Sunday. I'm hoping to read it while recuperating from thumb surgery! --P

The book is fantastic!!--a new high in quality of design and innovation for stranded colorwork. Is there any way to make it accessable for the KP online group and involved us in this occassion?--would really enjoy what she says about the new directions for colorwork. As soon as my yarn order from KP arrives, I'll be starting the first of several projects from the book!! My only problem with the book is deciding which of the fabulous designs to start first!!

OMG! I am so there. Is the building near the trolly stops? I have horrible night vision and will either need pulbic transportation or a ride.
