Knitting Community

Tonight I'm finishing my Market Bag Crochet project. I love it. I'm thinking of doing a few more for friends and family. It was free pattern I found.

This weekend I'm going to brave my first pair of knit socks. I'm making them for Brian. He picked black cotton yarn. I hope the color will not make it read to see stitches. Either way he is patience so I can take my time and get it right.

Also I'm planning on making three dog blankets. I have to find a pattern and what yarn is best for dogs. Machine washable obviously, but should I go with simply cotton?

You would love the KP organic cotton yarn. It feels wonderful in and on your hands. I made shower clothes for my daughter out of the organic cotton, and every time is gets wet it gets softer and thicker. She loves it.

I have acrylic for my projects now. I just like how it feels on my hands while I'm working. So it sounds like cotton is my best option.

Cathy,
I didn't know any better when I first started knitting... my first real projects were three dog sweaters, followed by a sweater for my husband... about three months later I was knitting socks. I didn't realize I lacked the experience, but found a very simple to follow pattern that really broke everything down to its most simple element, and it worked. I knit socks.

I think cotton for the dog blankets, too. I would think you would want to wash them pretty frequently and cotton will stay nice and soft. Besides, it seems that acrylic kind of grabs onto hair and keeps in in a deathgrip! I admire you starting socks so early in your career. I bought a sock book and have plans to try a pair for my little 10-month old friend. Knowing me, I will get them done in time for HER baby!

I knit the Montavilla Market bag, but want to do more. It was wonderful to knit.

I love knitting socks. Black may be a little hard to deal with, as it is hard to see the stitches.

Dog blankets: I'd knit them from cotton or an acrylic. Just my opinion.
