Knitting Community

So I just retired from dental hygiene after 36 years. Now I have time to pursue my knitting passion which is hats and mittens. My focus will be Latvian and Newfoundland type mittens. Why do I have this specific type in mind? One set of grandparents came from Latvia and the other from Newfoundland. So it must be in my blood to be discovered!! So, does anyone else have this passion and interest?

So it looks like Beth Brown Reisel is the one for Latvian Mittens. I tried to get into her class in Manchester NH but it is full. Hopefully I can get into a class in Brattleboro Vt in July. Latvian Wristers. I just had hand surgery and my hands are not up to speed and accuracy yet, a few more days. Keyboarding is going Ok

Well, headed into surgery tomorrow AM for my hands. They are fusing 3 joints on my right hand, so knitting is on hold for a while. I will so alot of walking now if I can not knit. I have degenerative osteo arthritis. Which is not all bad because I would not be here if I did not stop working.

Hello, thank you for your interest in my mittens. The idea to do this project came after my son was lamenting about not being able to get another pair of Norwegian mittens. My daughter had spent a year at a college in Sweden and had brought us each a pair of mittens back with her. Of course, it helped that this pattern was free but I found it to be well written and certainly has given me confidence to continue to with stranded color work.

Our library had Flying Geese & Partridge Feet, More Mittens from Up North and Down East, by Robin Hansen and Janetta Dexter which has lots of patterns and I am trying to pick out the easiest to start with. Robin Hansen has put out a book called Knit Mittens which I just bought and has great little tips.

Helly Maryly! I am currently in love with my new book from KP- Icelandic Knitting by Helene Magnusson. And THIS brooch pattern of hers that isn't in the book, and I don't own it YET!! I'm going to try making one with size 10 crochet cotton. I love the look of stranded mittens, but I haven't made any of those YET either!
