Knitting Community

Happy new year to all my fellow knitters and crocheters!  I know it’s been a long while since I’ve posted an update.  The good news is that I have been doing a lot of knitting!  I’ve also become somewhat of a Ravelry addict and spend most of my computer time updating projects and drooling over patterns.  I’ve also kept my knitting group, Fellowship and Fiber, alive and have tried to keep a hat for charity on the needles at all times.  I’ve finished quite a few small projects since the summer, and actually made my first lace weight shawl last August.

Christmas was sort of a blur, with some fast and furious knitting before and after I had the flu 2 weeks before Christmas.  We spent two glorious weekends at our little house in Buzzards Bay, which gave us a sanity break and a lot of knitting time for me!  I cranked out a WOTA Bulky Fair Isle hat the weekend before Christmas, and a Dovetail Cowl for my DD the weekend after Christmas.

My focus for at least the first few months of 2013 is tackling my WiPs that have been on the backburner.  You know when your WiP trunk is getting crowded, that drastic action is needed.  I really have startitis, too, which doesn’t help.  So I went through my WiPs on my projects page and set a target date for completion.  If I can get a couple of projects done on schedule, then maybe I will allow myself to cast on something new using something from my stash.  There are a lot of stash-busting projects that I’d like to start, but I really do need to finish something first!  I have two pairs of socks to crank out so they will be my go-to projects for now.  I can carry them in my purse easily, so no excuses!

I’ve also been contemplating a meditative-type project, something really brainless and easy, to do 20 minutes a day with a specific prayer focus.  I think I will use my Sediment Scraps Blanket for that.  I sometimes feel like I have ADD because I can’t focus on prayer for longer than 10 minutes unless I am writing it down.  Maybe this will help.

Does anyone else want to share their knitting goals for 2013?

I love to knit washcloths for my brother because I know he appreciates them. Who would have thought a man would appreciate handknit washcloths?

Absolutely Cheryl! When I make things for gifts I think very carefully before giving them away..will the recipient treat them nicely and appreciate them!! He he! One of my 'shopping stash boxes' is full of cotton for wash cloths and I've decided when I have a minute ill knit another washcloth..they only take an evening and I appreciate using them. Another is full of lovely fingering weight..socks and shawls. I really want to make 2013 the year of learning how to do magic loop, toe up socks, socks on two needles. That's my main goal....and absolutely no shopping unless from stash!! Yes REALLY!!!!! Please can someone tell me how to knit top down cardigan sleeves easily?!!! I find them so cumbersome and I have two really nice cardigans I want to finish up.

I think projects for ourselves are important.

I've decided to have 'Finishup February'!

I love it!  I just spent some Christmas $ on yarn for a summer sweater, so now I really need to bang out some wips to lessen the guilt!  (When I talk about wips, for me, they are projects for myself that I put on the back-burner.)

Heather, it's almost like shopping for free to find lovely yarns in your stash that you have forgotten about!

I've decided to have 'Finishup February'! I have three or four projects that need finishing, in particular sleeves on two top down cardigans..I find them exhausting to do! I started off January with the aim of getting thru my stash with some success! When I went thru my stash boxes I found lots of lovely yarn I had quite forgotten about!
