I should have listened to Kelley (AGAIN!)

I thought I'd learned my lesson ages ago when I knit the ugly watersock/slipper (remember that?). When it comes to knitting, I should listen to Kelley. Or I could have listened to Marci or Tina or Brett or any of the other many people who tried to tell me the body of my sweater was much too big. But I knit on. I had rationalizations. I had gauge. I could always steek a little extra if it was a tiny bit big. I had already cast on 3 times, and I was NOT doing it again.

I finally had to face the truth at craft night last week when Kelley staged an intervention and insisted I try on my knitting.
It was 16 inches too big.

Sigh.

Kelley ripped it out and did the cast on for me. I think she and Xena felt a little sorry for me.

While Kelley ripped and cast on, I frogged Karen's abandoned scarf so she can start over with a clean slate too.

Now that I'm almost back to where I was in the pattern when we frogged it, I can look back and laugh. But it was a rough night. I have to publicly thank everyone in the Classic Lines Cardigan KAL for all their support. I should always listen to Kelley.

At least they staged the intervention before you got farther along in the sweater. I hate it when that happens too. I did that with my first sock, but I'm blaming it on my boy. We both learned a lesson that day.

I always listen to Kelley...at least every Wednesday. Actually, she has a way of putting her finger on knitting issues. If I were in the office working with Kelley, I would do what she says! Yes, you could have fixed it with a steek, but you would be knitting about a square yard of extra fabric! Now you get to have the fun all over again, this time with the knowledge that you're doing it right. Knit on! --Peggy

You know, I think a 'frog Party' is great for commiserating on knitting disasters! It doesn't hurt as much when someone else does it, and it doesn't seem as bad to start over. You're off to a great start now, and hey, fourth time is a charm! Better you caught it now than at the sleeve join. :)

And, a great example. It's not just "listening to Kelly", but also highlights the fantastic benefit of knitting friends and compatriots! Let's all try to listen more, and share more too. You never know who will benefit. It could be me or you!

ya gotta hate when this happens..thank goodness for Kelley na dher insisting you try it on..yikes..I wish she'd been here to help wih my just completed socks--I'm proud of myslf that I made socks big enough for my foot finally---but they didn't shrink like I thought they would..but I think if I put some elastic throughout it could help?
