Knitting Community

Hello out there! My name is Kate and I'm new to the neighborhood.

I am a relatively new knitter. I always loved the idea of knitting but until last year I could never remember how to cast on. Don't ask me how many times I had my mother, who is more of a needlepoint gal, to show me how .... again. I don't know how she put up with me. I finally sat down last year and found a video online that I could rerun over and over and jumped that hurtle and I've been teaching my self ever since. I spent the first few months on basic squares and rectangles (scarves and blankets) to build my confidence. Lately I've been getting more and more adventurous. I am currently knitting my first sock! Thanks to a good reference book and the video tutorials here I turned my first heel yesterday! Can I just say WOO HOO! It was the coolest thing to watch come together. I was a little intimidated at first, but if I can get that I can get anything! I have high hopes for the future. Well I've got to get back to the sock Next stop toes!

Thank you all for the warm welcome for both Duke and me. If the past few days are any indication I am going to have many happy days ahead in this community. Thanks again Kate

Kate, So glad that you are conquering that first sock... I'm sure it is the first or many. I love socks... but love knitting in general. No, it doesn't come easily to everyone, but it is something that anyone can do, given the time and the patience. Welcome to the wonderful world of knitting. --S
