Knitting Community

I went to craft day on Sunday at work, and made a lot of progress on my Vivian sweater. There are 6 different cable charts that I need to pay attention to for the body of the sweater, and some of them don't repeat! This means that I can't knit this sweater while on the bus or while paying attention at meetings. I need to sit still, spread out my charts, and focus on this sweater.

But it's worth it, because this sweater is beautiful and well designed! And I love how all of these textured stitches look in City Tweed HW! Plus I love a challenge! And as I become familiar with the charts, the knitting does speed up.

I'm using Brocade. The City Tweed colors are really interesting. This one looks like a deep eggplant purple, but if you look closely at the yarn, it is made of a heathered mixture of black and fuchsia pink wool!

Oh dear. I think I'm going to have to put this pattern on my list! It's SO pretty. Keep posting pics of your progress, please! :) What colour is that you're using?

I'm really looking forward to following your progress on Vivian. I've just recently purchased the pattern & swatched, but haven't CO yet.
The tweed looks amazing in this pattern - great choice!!!

Yeah, Vivian isn't good heat wave knitting, but it still isn't that warm in Portland. I like to work on slower, more complicated projects in the summer and have them finished to wear in the fall. Then in the fall I want to knit with new patterns and yarns that were just released.

I LOVE Vivian!! I have this pattern as well, but haven't gotten to it yet. I decided I'd work on tops I can wear during the summer and save Vivian for later in the year when it starts getting cooler. I'm interested to see how it knits up in the City Tweed. I think I'd like it in a red color.

Me too. i'm knitting a vest with two different patterns repeats that really equal 3 pattern repeats... need to pay attention.

I agree. I really prefer charts to written directions. But I tend to memorize charts and knit from memory. I can't memorize Vivian because there are too many different cables that don't repeat up the length of the body! But this sweater is worth being tied to my pattern. I am so pleased with how it's knitting up!

Chart may seem difficult but they are so much better than written directions. Follow one row at a time. I am working on an Aron sweater now and I redid the charts on graph paper so it is all there to see. I made a lace shawl and I could only work on it undisturbed two rows at a time. I love that City Tweed and am wanting to make something useing it. Good luck with your knitting. Patricia S
