Knitting Community

Since we had such an amazing response to our first speed knitting contest, we're cooking up another one. Lots of you also requested that we host one over a weekend when you have more time to knit, and we're more than happy to oblige. Mark your calendars, ladies and gents, our next speed knitting contest will begin at 4pm Pacific time on June 12th, just in time for Knit In Public Day!!

I can't tell you what we're going to be knitting, but I can say that if you don't have at least 10 balls of worsted weight cotton or cotton blend yarn in your stash, you might want to place an order now! Comfy Worsted, Shine Worsted,, and Simply Cotton Worsted are all good choices.

We will be knitting in the round, so make sure you've got your favorite DPNs or circulars ready to go.

If you’ve never knit in the round before, this is a wonderful excuse to learn. Check out our video tutorial on knitting in the round here- http://community.knitpicks.com/video/knitting-in-the-round-fixed

Join our KIP speed knitting knitalong here and get those needles ready to go!

Okay, okay one more hint. You'll need size 7 needles.

I am going to attempt this KAL. I'm going to use comfy but not sure what color yet. I've been wanting to try comfy and this is my excuse. LOL.

I'd love to join, but I'll be on vacation in the UK!

The only hint I can give you is that it is something appropriate for charity knitting if you don't want to keep it.

Would love to give this a try, have never tried , I would probably be the slowest, yes a hint would be great and what colors to use.

if it were a contest to be the slowest knitter I'd win hands down. I just can't knit that fast, but it would be fun to try just to make the questionable item. A hint would be great since that really depends on what color to do.
At least can we have the size needle or legnth of circ needle needed.

10 balls equals how much in yards? I have all sorts of odd lots of cotton that might add up to the correct amount. Does it all have to be the same color?

And yes, please, give us a hint! It sounds like a large project and I want to at least guess if I'm going to want the thing when it's done!

I agree Susan - at least that way I can decide what colors of yarn to have on hand....

OK, I've got the yarn (or will have tomorrow)... and probably the correct size needles, since I have the Options set, but what "type" of item will we be making? Are we talking house hold item (like the Hemi), or is it a personal item (sweater, tank, etc)? It may not even be something I want to knit. I know you can't give us the pattern, but a hint would be nice.
