Knitting Community

For some reason, I'm rebelling against my summer knitting.

Last weekend, I didn't want to work on my socks, or my lace, or my cotton tshirt projects. They all require concentration that I didn't have, and trying to work on them just felt tedious and frustrating. So I cast on for a Daybreak shawl, with one of our rejected Stroll samples and a color-changing sock yarn I went out and bought instead of going to the Sock Summit (I know, bad designer!) I love the graphic elements of this pattern, and with the simple stripes and slipped stitches on a background of plain stockinette, it is turning out to be the perfect antidote to the knitterly temper tantrum I was having!

So I brought my progress into work today, and learned that Kate is not only knitting the same pattern (in ultra-gorgeous sock yarn that she got AT the sock summit) but that we cast on on the same day! What can I say, great minds think alike. I'm thrilled that we're both making this project, and that we chose such different colors for it. This way, I get almost the same satisfaction as knitting it twice!

Do you ever get into a knitting funk? What do you like to knit to get yourself out of it?

I can get into a knitting funk that last years, while I do something else like Genealogy or Quilting. I am back into knitting but still end up doing too much Sudoku. My stash grows ever bigger but my "done" pile doesn't grow much!
Keep the faith. Your urge to knit will return. Try a nice long walk.

When I get into a knitting funk, I pick up my crochet hooks. My hands just have to keep busy, and crocheting is much more mindless for me since I have been doing it for much longer, but crochet causes wrist pain for me, so sooner or later it will make me appreciate how much less painful knitting is, thus sending me back to it.

Nice, Daybreak is in my queue, too - I really like how yours is turning out, that's lovely!

That slip-stitch is really cool with the graded colors behind it!!--what a fantastic choice, a great idea!! We all get in a funk occassionally--that's why I trade off quilting and knitting and tatting and jewelry-- whatever suits my fancy for a change. It gives you a bit different perspective to step back and let some ideas settle, I like to clear my cobwebs!!

Oh, Judith, please don't feel that way about your CLC. I'm in that KAL and haven't even started it. I have every intention of doing it someday but right now I'm just enjoying the ride. Don't let it put pressure on you to finish. This isn't a contest to finish! Just work on it at your own pace. Plus your very first sock is awesome. Don't let knitting put you in withdrawal from your Victorian ribbon work and beading. If that's where your heart is leading you right now, go for it.

Very cool! Those colors go really well together. Can't wait to see the finished photos!

When I get into a knitting funk, it usually results in me buying more yarn, (adding to the ever-growing fiber mountain in my knitting alcove). But then have no idea what to do with that yarn. So, I just end up perusing Ravelry for projects that others made with the same yarn. Most of the time that helps... unless I stumble upon a pattern that totally inspires me. Then it's back to the LYS!

But thanks to podcast 106, you've got me on a lace shawl knitting kick! Yesterday I bravely just cast on a Pi Shawl with KnitPicks shadow in Atlantic. A little scary at first, since I"m not used to knitting with such fine fiber, but after a few rows, it's easy-peasy!

I'm in a real knitting funk brought on by this cardi KAL. It just dawned on me that
I'm in serious withdrawal from my Victorian ribbon work and my beading. They both
give me great pleasure but I'm afraid if I don't keep going, this turtle speed knitter
will never finish that sweater. I think being in the group puts pressure on me that
isn't usually there when I knit. I keep thinking I'll be dead last to finish. And a little
voice inside just said that I should perhaps make it my goal to finish last. Voila!!
No pressure. -- Judith
