Knitting Community

I just received my Knit Picks order of supplies to start my sock knitting adventure and am very excited! I ordered two books: "Getting Started Knitting Socks" by Ann Budd, and "Sensational Knitted Socks" by Charlene Schurch. Both books look great - lots of detailed instructions and patterns. I also ordered two sock yarns, Risata in Fairy Tale, and Essential in Meadow Multi. The Risata is a little thicker weight and a solid color so I am going to knit my first pair with it. But tonight I'm going to read the first few chapters in each book to get a good idea of where I'm going, then I'll start knitting this weekend. Wish me luck!

Good Luck! It is a good idea to read ahead, that way you don't get any curve balls!

Opps, I meant CHARLENE SCHURCH!

I haven't seen Charlotte's socks book yet, but absolutely love her hat book. Socks are SO fun to do! Have wanted to learn ever since making friends with a lady from Germany, who taught me the continental method.
As a child, growing up in Germany, her family chore was to knit a pair of socks A DAY! That fact fascinated me so much - and finally years and years later am knitting socks. Not a pair a day, however.

LUCK, Annette. I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine. I only learned how to knit socks last year myself. I had always marvelled at how clever one must be to finish something so wonderful. And - lo and behold - found that I must have a little cleverness in me, too. I don't know how many pairs I have done for my loving hubby by now, must be around half a dozen or more. Then one pair for me with another one on the go. Actually, now I find myself getting a little bored with the pattern. So I'll have to look through my pattern books to see if I can spice it up a little. :)

I just started knitting my first pair of socks too! Im using a sock yarn with aloe that I found at my local Hobby Lobby----But Im definitely using Knit Picks yarn from now on! I bought a sock book from a series of "Teach Yourself Visually" books. I need something with LOTS of pictures:) This was my first time with dpns--and I have really gotten the hang of them (I think they look alot more intimidating than they really are.) Anyway, Good Luck:)

I love socks! I have Charlene Schurch's book and love it. (Check the publisher's website for errors, though, I found some when the "Moorish Lattice" wasn't working out for me.) I had my book spiral-bound, which means I can keep it open to the pattern I'm working on. You'll like the other book, too. Two of my friends have it. I wish I had seen it when I first started making socks! Happy knitting, and watch out for sock addiction! --Peggy

Hi Annette,
Thanks for the comment on my vest! I love it. It is so comfy & warm. The pattern for the clogs was a Fiber Trend pattern and I used Lamb's Pride Worsted Bulky Yarn, Jaded Dreams & Roasted Coffee, 85% wool/15%mohair. I took a class at our local knitting shop. They were fast and easy to make.
I also took a sock class and am on my fourth pair of socks. I love them! I also bought Ann Budds book "Getting Started Knitting Socks" and it is a great book! I found the directions much easier to understand than the directions I got from the class.
I also have been knitting since I was 10 and learned in 4-H. I remember entering my knitting in the County Fair. I still have my project books from 4-H and even have one of the ponchos I entered in the Fair that won a blue ribbon! Needless to say, the poncho doesn't fit me anymore. haha
Good luck with your socks! I hope you enjoy making them as much as I do.
Nancy
