Literally. The actual steek went fine.

It's my second adult sweater, and I thought it would just be loads of fun to try a steek, cause I LOVE knitting in the round. So the shrug was knit with the required extra stiches for the steek. The crochet reinforcement was done.... nothing to do but cut. So I did... oh my! but it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. I think my husband was way more scared watching me than I was doing it. The crochet edge was perfect and unlike my swatches... i didn't test the security of it by yanking on it...I was very delicate with it untill I would find time the next day to curl the edge over and reinforce it one more time. Sidenote... this was with a superwash.... no felting capabilities at all...what was I thinking? So I laid it out on the chair, and went to bed.

Then it happend. I woke up around 2am and was freaking out that someone had taken my poor shrug, tried it on... and YANKed on it pulling out all the reinforcement... didn't matter how many times I rolled over and told myself I was dreaming, I couldn't get the image out of my head. I finally had to get out of bed and go check on the sweater... yes, like a baby,.. to make sure it was still in one piece.

The first thing I did this morning was to stich the edge of the shrug down... no more nightmares for me!

On the bright side... the steek is beautiful! I'm totally hooked, though I'm going to stick with a non-superwash... the no-felting aspect was just a bit too much for my already over-stressed body. :)

I'll post pictures when they materialize. :)

So sorry you had a nightmare!! Sounds like a dream I could have. I've been having more knitting dreams lately, but none of them have been as bad as that!

Maria, Thanks for sharing your steeking story... I can imagine waking up to that nightmare! How comical in a way! Every time someone successfully does this, I feel a bit easier about it... haven't tried it myself, but probably will. Good information. --S
