Knitting Community

Hi Knitters!

I've been very busy since getting to KnitPicks, but I wanted to share my first project as a KnitPicks employee with you before I wear it out!

I'm not the only one around here who likes to kick off her shoes and make her desk a more relaxing place to spend time, right? But, most workplaces frown on us wandering around in our stocking feet. So, my first order of business around here was to knit up a pair of desk slippers to wear around the office! I chose Shamrock, a heavy worsted wool yarn, for it's warmth, cushionyness (it is so a word!), and pretty color changes. In fact, you can see me knitting the first slipper on Harmony straight needles in our Knitting Community banner!

Having my handknits in use at work is so comforting and home-y, that I'm now wondering what else I could knit for my office. Backrest? Phone cozy? Any suggestions?

PS- I didn't include the pattern information in my post! Bad Knitter! Here it is:
I used Ysolda Teague's Grownup Booties pattern from her e-book, Whimsical Little Knits. The sizing on this pattern was esily adjustable, and they were super fast and easy to knit in Aran weight yarn, like Shamrock.

I posted it in the comments, but I think it's getting lost, so I'll edit the post to include the pattern information. Check back in a minute, if you haven't already found it!

Those are really cute and look relatively easy to make. Right up my alley. Where can I find the pattern, or are you willing to share?

Mimi, the pattern I used (linked above in an earlier comment) actually did turn out a bit big and they needed to be felted down a bit so they wouldn't fall off my feet. And, if you couldn't tell from the picture, I have pretty big feet to begin with! I think that the next pair I make, I'll shorten by an inch or more, considering that garter stitch has such great lengthwise stretch!

Is there a pattern? I tried some felted ones once and they're still big enough to use oars!

Ooh, that little mouse is too cute! I have a feeling my desk will be filling up with a variety of little critters. Just back me up when I tell Tina that theye help me work!

OhMyGod! This link will take you to the Whimsical Knits page you mentioned above where you will see the sweetest little desk mousie! Good for dusting that computer monitor!

Do you have a dust cover for your computer keyboard and monitor? Maybe you could use one of those soft little stuffed knitted animals to serve as a screen duster? Maybe you could try a knitted ornament (flat?) to hang on your bulletin board above your desk? Hmmmm so many projects, so little time.

Very nice, can you share the pattern?

Thanks for the great suggestions everyone! I think I'm going to start with some felted bowls--such a good way to use up wool scraps, and so functional!

Smiling, I used Ysolda Teague's Grownup Booties pattern from her e-book, Whimsical Little Knits. I also found similar slipper patterns here and here. They're both easy to adjust sizing on and would fit an adult foot well when worked with Aran weight yarn, like Shamrock. Be sure to let me know if you make a pair!

For more projects to use at work, try a shawl to wrap up when you get the chills and cuddle up. It's also good on Monday mornings before the first cup of coffee LOL. And for novelty, try a computer "wrap", scrunchies or other "hair thingies" as my best friend's daughter calls 'em, knee highs for the ground chills.... The possibilities are endless. I just wish we were allowed to wear / demponstrate things like that at the bank!
