It's officially fall, and it's time for me to pick up my City Tweed sweater that was a little too hot to work on over the summer.
City Tweed is a great yarn for fall knitting. It's warm enough to be outerwear before you have to break out the winter coat. It's soft enough to wear next to your skin, so you can be cozy in a sweater whether you are raking leaves or sitting in front of a fire. The yarn colors range from rich harvest tones to bright jewel tones with several neutrals as well, so it's sure to match your fall wardrobe.
I found some wonderful inspiration when I was perusing City Tweed HW and DK projects on Ravelry. Thanks to everyone who gave me permission to use their photos! In this slide show, each picture has the knitter's Ravelry user name, the name of the pattern, and a link to the project's Ravelry page listed. Just click on any of the pictures to get this information.
If all of those great Ravelry projects weren't enough inspiration for you, we just released a free City Tweed Dropped-Stitch Shawl pattern. The lacy parts were created by dropping stitches down to the cast on edge, which makes this a really simple shawl to knit. I don't know about you, but I'm really good at dropping stitches! Except this shawl has you drop stitches in a pretty pattern, instead of in the middle of your sweater.
Kate,
Nice pattern. I may need some help when it comes to dropping those stitches. I haven't made one of these before because I just could not imagine how this works. But I know KP will be there to help if I need it. Thanks for all the free patterns lately. We like them. --S
Kate,
Thanks for the inspiration! I just love City Tweed though I have yet to finish a project in it. I'm doing a pair of fingerless gloves in the City Tweed HW in the brocade (I think) - that will probably be my first one. Thanks for the tip about the new pattern. I need a nice shawl pattern... --Susan
