I finally finished my last knitting for Christmas project - a pair of socks for my husband. I had to put him into the hospital the Friday before Christmas, and he got out on the 23rd, but this cut into my knitting time substantially. I showed him the socks on Christmas Eve and promised them by the weekend - I finished them Sunday afternoon.

He's feeling much better, but still not 100%.

Three more days left to work - then I can knit whenever I want - no more hour long commutes, no more 8+ hour days = ah, retirement.

Hubby is doing better, but still needs to go back to the doctor next week. He has several conditions that act up from time to time. They don't usually require hospitalization though.

The socks were an after thought, once I finished all my other knitting nearly two weeks early, I really thought I could pull it off, but with trips to the hospital, and taking care of the dogs and taking a few minutes for me just didn't make it possible.

I'm knitting him a pair out of the Essential Sock Yarn after the first of the year. He likes wearing them around the house with house shows. Warm, comfy etc. I bought the yarn for my daughter in law, then decided to knit her mittens, then gave her a pair of socks that I knit for myself and didn't like.

I hope you're husband feels better soon! It seems like I'm the only one who didn't make socks for the man in my life! I did however make him a pair for his birthday.

Susan: I ran into the same problem...sort of. My DH came down with a bad cold right before Christmas, and he stayed home from work. I gave him the completed sock with a "parts and labor" certificate. I'll finish the pair (I'm to the gusset on sock #2) after the kids leave! Happy retirement! Is your last day New Year's Eve? --Peggy
