Angel of Beauty Scarf - A Knitting Buddy Giveaway

A dear friend visited me over the weekend of the Sock Summit. Elizabeth is undergoing treatments for breast cancer including a long course of chemo therapy. Of course, she lost her hair! When I saw the Angel of Beauty Scarf in Gerard Allt's book Knitting to Share, I knew I had to knit it for her to wear during Sock Summit.

I asked Elizabeth which color of Shimmer she would like and it was amusing to hear that she picked the one I thought she would like - Shallows. I knit the scarf with two strands of Shimmer and I love the drape of the fabric - even before it was washed. I know this because I didn't have time to wash it before Elizabeth arrived.

Elizabeth has a very busy life with five children but she found time to have her daughter, Emily, take a few photos of her wearing the scarf.

I was not only pleased with this scarf when it was finished but I absolutely loved knitting it. Whenever I finish a project, I am overcome with the desire to share my joy. Dancing up and down the streets of Vancouver is more likely to get me odd looks rather than shared enthusiasm. What a silly woman! I have plenty of friends who do understand and I have a plan!

what a nice and thoughtful gift for your friend who i might add looks wonderful in the scarf
christine don't be afraid to approach people who have cancer just ask how they are and most likely they will only respond with what they want to share with you
i used to feel the same way never new what to say until a close friend of mine went through breast cancer
which she is doing very well now
i wish i had this pattern then i love christine's idea and am going to look into doing something like that myself

I do LOVE the scarf. The color in Shimmer makes it look very fluid, which is very nice when worn. People notice the beautiful scarf, not the malady that necessitates the wearing of it. The scarf becomes the star attraction. I have several acquaintances (not friends, but people I know enough to say Hello to) who are obviously going through chemo treatments. I often find it hard to approach them (something that I am ashamed of and am working hard to overcome) and not sound like I am being "nosey" about their condition. To be able to comment on a beautiful scarf like this to open the conversation is wonderful!

I can see doing something like this (in shimmer of course!) in a quantity and leaving some at our local clinic with the nurses, so that they could share them with cancer patients (one-on-one). This lovely scarf is so much prettier than the standard chemo hats I have seen.
