I finished my sister's birthday sweater vest!

(Shhh...just ignore the fact that her birthday was in August. She didn't need it until it got cold out anyway!)

I can't say enough good things about Andean Treasure - it knit up like a dream, and it cooperated nicely while I blocked it long and lean for my smaller-than-me sis. The finished vest has a slight fuzziness that's inviting instead of itchy, and Embers Heather is a really rich, complex color that'll look great with her fall wardrobe.

The honeycomb stitch pattern is super stretchy, so I had to plan for a significant amount of negative ease. The size I made allowed for 6" of negative ease, and I could have even made it smaller for a more fitted look. The twisted rib on the bottom band and edgings seems like an unnecessary pain, but it really looks sharp on the finished piece. The twisting helps the ribbing stand out just slightly more, and I'm really pleased that I put the extra time into it (rather than just switching to my quicker 2x2 standard rib that I always sub in).

Pattern: Honeycomb from knitty.com
Yarn: Andean Treasure in Embers Heather (just under 6 balls for the 30" size)
Needles: KP Nickel-plated Options, size 4

It's beautiful Alison! A vest is a great idea for alpaca too - not too hot (temperature-wise).

Thanks! It's a standard Dritz form from Joann's, and it dials up and down in size at the hips, bust, waist, and a few other places. I never realized how useful it was until I started sewing skirts; now my hemlines aren't all wobbly anymore. I didn't use it for knitting pictures until Ravelry came along, and now I'm hooked. No more cropping off my head!

Gorgeous! I love how you've styled it on the mannequin too. How does one go about purchasing a mannequin like that by the way?

Beautiful! What a pro. I don't know your sister, but I would imagine she'll look great in it. And such a good wardrobe staple-- who couldn't use another sweater vest?
