The Knitter’s Book of Finishing Techniques
My little brother got me this book for Christmas a couple years ago, and it’s hands-down the one book in my knitting library that I reference the most. Whenever I have to graft a shoulder seam or create a stretchy bind off, I consult Nancie’s invaluable instructions. The book includes clear photos and illustrations, and I especially love that Nancie discusses the benefits and drawbacks of different finishing techniques before explaining how to do them. That aspect of it makes the book the perfect companion to those patterns that give vague instructions like “cast on” or “bind off” without detailing which specific technique to use.
I also love the book’s compact size, hard cover, and spiral binding. When I’m traveling, and I know there’s the possibility of finishing my travel knitting project, I always throw this book in my suitcase. It’s so small and durable! The spiral binding means that the page stays open when you’re trying to knit from the instructions too—very smart.
