A little while back, Kelley destashed a LOT of yarn. I saw these discs of Palette

just waiting to be used in some lovely colorwork project. While not really my colors, they seemed to go together well. And with all the greys, I thought I could make a hat for my patient husband (shown below, hatless)

Now the question is what pattern? I've been searching Ravelry, and while there are a lot of great colorwork hat patterns, I'm just feeling like I need somebody else to help me make a decision. Any pattern suggestions? He's not into pirates, he likes close fitting hats, and the bright blue, yellow and red yarns, while appreciated, will most likely have to be used as accent colors. Help!

That is an excellent suggestion, thanks! I knew I needed to ask the blog world!

What about holding the yarn double and making the Red Light Special Hat? You could do the background in black and use the three greys for the pattern, or use two of the greys and a pop of color.
