Just listened to this podcast and after finishing my first lace shawl and was knew exactly what you felt about the ssk (and loved that tip), dull ends, and loosing the YO under a marker, ripping out, counting, knitting, going backwards again and then trying over and over. I found even the purl side can be easy to loose them. I'm going to try using more markers. Thanks for the tips!

Hi Mona Lis,

Well, the Stonington Shawl is still a work in progress. The basic pattern is in The Knitting Workshop by Elizabeth Zimmermann. I am making the center square and side trapezoids in simple garter stitch. My plan is to us the shell border from Barbara Walker stitch dictionary. It will be knit on sideways. That is usually the way borders are knit onto lace shawls. If this is your first shawl, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the original border that Elizabeth put on her Stonington shawl.

Hugs,
Kelley

Question for Kelly. Very interested in the Stonington Shawl with Shell border described on podcast #59. I called customer service and was given the name of the books containing the patterns mentioned. I purchased "Knitting Workshop" by Elizabeth Zimmermann, and "Treasury of Knitted Patterns" by Barbara Walker, but still am not able to visualize the finished project or determine which border you actually used and how it was attached to the shawl. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. (Any chance of a picture of the shawl you created??} Thanks for your help, Mona Lis

You are not alone in obsessing about travel knitting. I have a trip to Hawaii in November and the flight alone is about 24 hrs. round trip. What do I bring and how much? At least two projects coming and going so I don't get bored. Oh the things we knitters must consider.
Great podcast and I'll remember these tips for when I finally try lace knitting.
