I must admit that usually seeing something that claims to be possible in 'five easy steps' gets an eyeroll from me. So to say I was pleasantly surprised by this book,
Design Your Own Knits, would be an understatement!
More than just a stitch dictionary, mix-and-match guide or an inspirational jumping-off point, Debbie Abrahms steps you through the entire creative process necessary to create your very own original knitwear. Instead of glossing over details like color choice and yarn selection, she describes in depth why this is integral to a successful piece. She also devotes an entire chapter to swatching - my personal favorite!
Another thing that I love about this book is that it's not meant to be 'pretty'. Since designing is a choose-your-own-adventure situation, she simply gives you the tools, tells you how to use them, and sends you into the wild world of design. No frills, no extraneous information - just simple, straightforward details.
If you've ever been curious about designing your own garments but are afraid of 'Gorilla Arms', inappropriately placed bobbles or any other knitting tragedies,
Design Your Own Knits is a must-have for your reference library!
