Vicki Square is quite a world traveler when it comes to appreciating our knitting heritage. Two of her books, Folk Bags and Folk Hats, make up up an armchair tour of countries that many of us only dream of visiting. In her most recent book, Knit Kimono, Vicki shares her discovery of how beautifully the shape of kimono provides a blank canvas for the talents of every knitter from rank beginner to long-time fiber addict.

What’s On My Needles
Thanks to a very rainy weekend, I was able to finish my leggings and I absolutely love them!! They fit perfectly and are quite warm. I wore them on Monday with one of my favorite baggy sweaters. The outfit was a bit warm so I want to find a couple of lightweight sweaters to tie me over until winter sets in with a vengeance.
I’ve given myself a break in terms of Hendrix’s sweater. I’m going to make it to fit her for next winter. The truth is that the sweater set would be a bit overwhelming for a baby who isn’t even a year old. I’d like to see her toddling around in the sweater rather than crawling.
I also started my second Moderne Baby Blanket from Mason Dixon Knitting. The first one we showed in the catalog and then I gave it to my great-nephew, Dylan. This one is for a friend’s baby. I had forgotten how nice it is to work on a very basic garter stitch project. It makes for better football watching on a Sunday afternoon.
I did not get started on my Open Collared Shirt at all. Bob is going to be out of town until Sunday so I will have lots of time to focus on a new project. Hopefully, once I get over my starting hesitation, I will make good progress.
