Socks from the toe up: Did I mention I really like this!

Oh, yes. I do really like this. Perhaps I have been doing socks for, oh, say, 17 years from the top down. And if I were to actually count how many pairs that would be, well, let us just say it would be quite a few pairs. I am enamored with the toe up method and process. What can I say? I am even doing them with two circular needles. I have not given up the double pointed needles nor have I given up on socks from the top down. I am just enjoying something different.… Continue

It is now summer! New Book and Socks

Well, I have a new book. It is from Wendy Johnson, aka, Wendy Knits. Toe up socks have not been real fun for me and I have made a sock that used the square toe from the Favorite Socks book by Interweave Press. Ok, a good cast on if you want square or (ballet toes). While we are discussin… Continue

March Medly progress

Here is the progress on the sweater. I am so, happy with it. Now I hope I have enough of the main colors without having to be creative with the little bits from my stash I am not using.

Keep knitting! Continue

Wednesday is Class Night

Meet my class. I teach a class at the local yarn shop where I work.

The class is always full and the students are a lot of fun to have in the class. Each is skilled in the basics of knitted and are progressing in their skills with each new project they take on. One of my students is… Continue

Mmmmmmm...

This sweater has caused mecurial emotions...medly to madness, malaise, and finally merriment. I just want it to be a little bit different. I thought for awhile I might have lost some of my knitting savy when it came to a little remodel. Oh, I am finally making positive progress.

It t… Continue

March medly to March madness

Ok, so I lied. I said I wasn't going to re do this sweater again. Still not happy with it, It seemed to big and the lace is still not right. I study and study it, and it does not ring true.

Rip it out and start again. This time from the very beginning. I do like the seed stitch. Make… Continue

February Lady to March Medly (a remix)

You recall, I had the entire yoke done of the February Lady sweater. Well, here is how it looks today. I was not happy with the garter stitch pattern. Or the lace pattern. And I am pretty sure I will taper the sleeves.

Like a remodel to a home. I am going to remodel the sweater. St… Continue

Stash Diving

Yarns and more yarns. Bought with a project in mind, put away for a later date, and forgotten. New patterns emerge and new ideas are created from what is on had. It is a lot like cooking. What looks well together? The same guages, similar colorways. I was inspried by the February Lady sweater that the Yarn Harlot is making from her handspun. I saw a finished sweater at the Blue Moon Fibers booth at Madrona. I could do this! I need another sweater. Stash diving I went. Here is what I found.… Continue

Socks are blooming! It must be spring!

So, I have been wondering if winter will finally give way to blooming crocus, hiacynth, and are the daffodils finally thinking of coming up through the ground? I am in need of some sun and spring like activities. Here is my solution. Socks. Oh, you may laugh and jest, however, a brightly colored sock is almost like spring.

Little wonders

This is to follow up on the genius. My little black sleeve extensions are wonderful and perfect for my black pair of gloves. As I talked about this at the shop, I was struck by the other little uses of these sleeves. Ok, I know it is not a new idea. It has been done before and was quite the practical thing in eons gone by. So here they are.

Genius strikes at midnight--or in the wee small hours of the morning.

Ok. Sometimes my brain is on overtime and in those wee small hours of the morning, those o'dark'thirty hours, genius strikes. That creative gene and inspiration will come to me in the dreams of my sleep or the wanderings just before waking. There it is, that spark of wonderfulness. I can't help it. I must get up and write it down, sketch it out or start the process. So this morning I am awake as Daniel is smoking fish and needs to check on it every so many hours. I had an inspiration. I have be… Continue

Snow? No! Snow Flakes, better.

Mind you, I am from Alaska, or lived there long enough to call it home, though I was born on the other side of the mountains. So, in Alaska there is a lot of snow. It starts about mid October and the last traces melt away (at least were we lived) by April - mid May. One is accustomed to driving in the snow, even seeing the snow and welcoming its signal to the winter season. Here my friends, it is wet and slushy and this year, more than I cared to see. So you may ask, why the title to this littl… Continue

Let it Snow?! Drifting and upsot?

Baby it is cold outside, let it snow, and upsot plans. Well, does life imitate art or art imitate life? The latter is more likely when the wind blows and it snows. I am so glad I'm inside spinning and knitting away. So here is what it looks like this morning.

At the front door… Continue

The last Stocking!

Who said that Christmas stockings had to be red, white or green? Why not incorporate those wonderful natural hand spun fibers and create a beautiful fair isle or stranded stocking? You have been looking at the progress and here is the last one. My friend is well pleased with her acquisitions.

Something fun! A warm 'n soft neck warmer.

I found a couple of wonderful patterns online for neck cozy's. I have knit up the pattern from Wendy Knits and was quite pleased with it. However, I found another cute and quick pattern on the ravelry list. This pattern is from Abigail Wellbourn (http://akittenknits.blogspot.com). Her pattern is the Victorian Lace and ribbed Neck warmer. Very pretty.
