I finished the scarf I was making for my very good friend Andrea. As you probably guessed by the title of this post, I used Comfy Worsted Yarn in Cypress. The pattern is a free pattern from Ravelry, you can find it…

I finished it. If I wasn't making it for my mom I would have never finished it. It was great travel knitting. It went with me to Austria, Germany, Italy, Yellowstone for New Years, and lots and lots of meetings at work.
The pattern is the Shoulder Shawl out of
Victorian Lace Today. I used…

Buying a gift card is a bitter sweet activity for me. On one hand, I'm giving a gift that gives in two ways--you get it as a gift, then they get to go shop with it, so it kinda doubles the enjoyment. Also, of course, they get exactly what they want.
On the other hand, it's kind of impersonal and can carry that negative connotation that I didn't put much thought into it.
The designers at Knit Picks have saved the day.…

That subject line for this blog post may make it sound more interesting than it really is, but anyway...
Angela and I are going to be co-leading a "Gift" Knit Along to help everyone get through their holiday gift giving knitting.
I have already started mine and finished a couple of projects as shown in the couple of photos above. They are two kitchen towels and a sushi (spicy tuna…

AmongTheRoses for her idea to make paper out of dryer lint!
AmongTheRoses had several really great entries for this contest, including:
Her son using bottle caps as "army guys," and he stores them all in an old coffee can when not in use
She uses old pantyhose as shoe shiners
Her and her children saved cellophane candy wrappers to complete a "stained glass" project
And she uses any possible scrap paper, from holiday wrapping paper to shredded junk mail to…

Here's Melissa and Alice
These are photos to go with Melissa's post about our Knit in Public day today at the park in Vancouver.
For the record, Melissa was the local celebrity among the knitters. People couldn't believe she knit the sweater she had on--see how gorgeous it is in…

I used it for the first time last week at Trader Joes. I was so excited by how well it worked that I took a photo. It was so fun to have the person at the check out pull it out of my basket and fill it with my groceries--I was so proud :).
So if you were on the fence about the tote, go get it. You'll love carrying it around because it's pretty, and you'll love using it because it works really…

What’s your wackiest “re-use?”
We all do it, right? We all have things around the house that we use in a creative way--a way that they weren’t meant to be used for. We may not have even thought about the fact that those “re-uses” are each a tiny step towards helping to keep the planet green.
I mean, is there a more creative group than knitters? We take yarn and turn it into everything from sweaters to dish cloths to baby toys. And knitting a reusable grocery tote just…

To start from the beginning--we held a contest in our Knit One Give One Knit along where we asked people to share their best stories about giving away their finished knitted projects.
We were overwhelmed by the response. The stories were all so beautiful and really touched us. We laughed with some, we cried with some, we shared many of the stories with our friends and family.
It was a very difficult task, but we narrowed it down to our six favorite stories. Now it's your…

Last weekend I went on a 40 mile lodge to lodge hike with my parents along the Rogue River in Oregon. I was carrying everything I needed for the hike on my back, so I was very conscience of weight and bulk. Of course though, I had to bring knitting.
The picture is of me and my dad.
So I brought 3 balls of
comfy from my stash and tested some hand…

Here's a pic--the project looks nicer than my gloomy pic shows

Actually I finished it this weekend while watching the scariest movie I've ever seen, "30 Days of Night" about vampires that attack an Alaska town in winter. I was alone and it was dark and I was gripping my needles with all my might.
It's quite a bit smaller than the original tote pattern called for because, well, I'm short. I made the the body about 10 inches…

Just like we wish that peace on earth wasn't only on Dec 25, we've decided to extend "Earth Day" to at least an "Earth Week."
Katie made these awesome rear view mirror hang tags and/or a placard for your dashboard to help you remember your reusable grocery bags. By the way, that's the first time I've ever used the word "placard" did I do it correctly?
I went digging through those dark, sad recesses of the cabinets around…

I knit a baby blanket and a ribbed hat in
Comfy Worsted and really enjoyed working with it.
But I love bulky--bulky anything actually.
There's a hat that I've had in the back of my mind to knit for a long time, and now with Comfy Bulky, I'm going to do it.

In a scene in the movie Love Actually, Claudia Scheiffer is in the cutest hat. You can't…

I finished my first lace project!

I was inspired by Franklin Habit's
Night Cap on Knitty.

So Alison helped me alter the pattern to make a scarf, knitting straight instead of in the round and helped me choose yarn and needle size.

Alison said to show off the beautiful…

It took me so long to post about this project because I lost the page with the pattern on it. I cleaned out my craft room this week and found it! I pulled the pattern out of a "Crafts 'n Things" magazine, though all I have is the page that I pulled out and it doesn't list the issue date. I'd guess the issue was last summer.
The original pattern was for mittens and scarf and this hat and all had a red cherry on top. I changed it to…

My family has decided not to exchange Christmas gifts this year, it lowers stress and credit card bills and instead we'll all go for a hike and have a great meal together on Christmas day.
Well, that doesn't stop me from knitting. Since my Mom taught me, I think she deserves a little something from time to time so I'm going to give this set to her this weekend.
The yarn is…

I’m a fairly new knitter still, just hats and scarves so far, so I’m still learning a lot. My latest learning is the difference between self-striping yarn and variegated or hand painted yarn. I finished my scarf out of
Felici Dakota and guess what…it's self stripes! I’ve had everyone from my Dad to the…
