I learned this summer that my DS and his wife are expecting a baby... I was so thrilled! These two got married only two years ago, but have been dating since high school. They lead a pretty active life style, and are always busy, so I really didn't expect them to ever have a baby. But they decided this was something they wanted to do... so they are.
I immediately began planning projects for this new arrival... blankets, bibs, booties, etc. I even ordered yarn within a week... of course this cut…

We had out monthly fiber guild meeting this evening. It will be our last meeting for the year, as several members have so many committments in December that a meeting was nearly impossible. We will meet next on January 9 for our annual dinner meeting (usually held at Christmas)
At today's meeting, we discussed plans for our dinner, reviewed several acknowledgements received by members or friends of members. Our guild leader Marlene participated in the Foot Hills Art Festival and won 2nd and 3rd…

I have been busily knitting all weekend. I got a lot done, but no knitting FOs to show for it. Sigh!
Early yesterday I reminded myself that I had not done the embellishment on my apron for the Guild's Apron Project, so I started thinking about that and searching for ideas. Thank you Ravelry for having something I could use.
My neighbor came over to help me organize my stash... I had containers of yarn and fiber everywhere - stacked especially in my bedroom, and I had no idea where anything was…

Hello all,
I have been busy knitting all week, and have made a lot of progress, but have no finished knitted items to show for it.
I did however complete a dyeing project yesterday afternoon, and I want to tell you about it. When I did my first dyeing experiment (which I am learning it always will be), one of the ladies at our guild loved the way the locks took the gold color I had dyed. She asked if I would dye about 2 oz. of locks for her to use as hair on the needle felted projects she was w…

I only have about two months before Christmas, and I am trying like MAD to get all of the gifts knitted in time. My spinning has really cut into my time, but I love spinning so much, that I just have to do what I can do.
I also took nearly an entire day to meet one of my good online KP friends - but that was well worth the time. Yes, Carol, I am talking about you!
I have finished two projects during the past two days. One is a scarf that I imagined using Palette... Salsa Heather and Golden Hea…

Until today, I have never personally met any of the people I have talked with on the Knitting Community. We all consider ourselves good friends, but only via the internet highway. I learned a few weeks ago that one of my KP friends, Carol Meissner, was coming to Ohio to visit with her sister this week for the big Pumpkin Festival in Centerville, OH - about 3 hours from my house. She invited me to meet her at a half way point for breakfast, and arranged a private shopping experience at a new yarn…

I have had these projects done for several days, but our weather has been cloudy and overcast for days… and all attempts to get a “good picture” indoors have met with total failure. Today I finally have some sunshine, and in spite of the cool day, am able to get good shots of my FO’s
First for the knittin’
I have completed two Christmas gift projects:
My version of Fetching Mittens. Let me say that this is a wonderful pattern! Love the simple cables, love the fact that you can make them longer…

I have been talking a lot lately about spinning, dyeing wool, etc. But I've been knitting too, and I have the pictures to prove it.
The first finished baby item: My Simply Cotton Hooded Receiving Blanket/Spa Towel

I don't imagine you recognize this fiber... it is the four colors of Polypay wool that I dyed last Saturday. Looks pretty good all carded and smoothe, doesn't it?
When my friend and guild leader Marlene saw the dyed fiber she was really impressed. And she asked if I would like to come and spin at the…

Peggy and Barbara have both blogged about their recent (and past) experiments with dyeing. I have read, researched, reread, drilled Peggy about how she did her dyeing.... OK, now it's my turn! This week I found an inexpensive stainless steel pot ( I think I'm going to like this), stocked up on food coloring (a box of 4, plus black), then measured 4 4-oz packages of Polypay wool. This is some of the wool I was given early in the summer, and am just now getting around to playing with it. After my…

I have been so excited this week, because I knew I was going to the
Heritage Farm Museum in Huntington, WV for a spinning class. The announcement came out a few weeks ago in a local paper, so I called to see what was involved. I signed up for the class, and sent them my check. Note: I planned to take pictures around the farm, but due to
heavy showers all day, it was impossible. I have included a link with the name above, if…

As many of you remember, back in June our guild decided to do something we are calling "The Apron Project". Each member gets or makes an apron, then they do something to embellish their apron, they they pass it off to one of the other guild members, and that guild member also does something to embellish the apron... we continue this process until each person has embellished each apron. We can pretty much do whatever we want to do, but hopefully it will be something utilizing an animal fiber.
On…

I iniitally learned about A Wool Gathering from my friend, and guild leader, Marlene who has her own little company, Marlene's Felting Madness (where she performs works of art with wool, water, soap and a lot of hard work), and a fiber farm, Timber Ridge Farm, where she has Wensleydale sheep, Angora goats, a few llamas, a few horses, and a bunch of dogs. She was one of the vendors at this event.
Note: I was a guinnea pig for Marlene several months ago, and performed this task... This is hard wo…

I was awakened this morning before 5am by my DH feeding the dogs... he woke up before 5am, SO EXCITED about going to A Wool Gathering in Yellow Springs, OH that he took a shower, got dressed, fed the dogs and was gradually waking me up too. I finally crawled out of bed sometime after 5:30... still pretty sleepy, but waking up. After two cups of tea, and checking my email, I got dressed, gathered up all of the things I was taking with me, and at 6:45 a.m. we departed. We topped off the gas tank,…

This month I invited the Appalachian Ohio Fiber Guild to my home for our monthly meeting.
A few members were not in attendance, but we had one visitor who may turn into a member. We hope so.
We had a wonderful time. Talking about our Apron Project. I only got one picture of an apron, so I'll wait and blog about that later, when I have more pictures.
We had show and tell, and several members brought finished items and WIPs to work on during the meeting.
The most unusual Show and Tell item was…

I have had a very busy week, and vey little of it is about knitting.
I'm hosting my Appalachian Ohio Fiber Guild Meeting tomorrow, and we have really been trying to get ready for that. I had originally planned for an outdoor meeting, but last week the weather forecast said that Sunday would be very rainy. So I was trying to decide
where to have the meeting... either my living room or my screened in porch...
Then every day something came up to prevent us from starting on the cleanup and a…

Ok, I finished the FIRST alpaca sock... I cast on for the second one the same day, and have finished the ribbing and a few inches of the leg, but the little needles were killing me.
I had cast on for a scarf using double stranded Palette in Golden Heather and Salsa Heather... two very pretty colors... but the pattern was just not working... I have frogged twice... and changed patterns another time, and I think I have a scarf that will have some leaves in pretty fall reds and golden tones... thi…

Ok, I was going to wait until the pair was finished, but I just couldn't! This is a record for me. I finished a whole sock in one week. I had started and frogged this particular sock three times before this final effort which started last Monday... and today... we have a finished alpaca sock for my dear husband Larry. His feet get really cold in the winter and i promised him some alpaca house socks out of the alpaca I earned knitting a Hemi back in June. Here is my first finished effort. I have…

Every time I finish a project, I just have to cast on a new one... usually within a day... I will cast on, knit a while, then go back to whatever was already on my needles. Anyway, this week I saw the lovely Noble Cowl knit by Knit4Many, and fell in love with the pattern. I had planned a purple scarf for a good friend as a Christmas present, and I had 3 balls of Andean Silk (Imperial) just waiting in the wings. Everytime I looked in that stash drawer those purple balls nearly jumped out of the d…

I have been promising this blog post for days, and finally everything is completed, blocked, photographed, etc. So here goes.
This have been a very productive week for the Blue Lake Knitter. Today we held our monthly Fiber Guild Meeting, and I was able to show off all sorts of newly completed projects.
I was asked to do a demonstration of knitting an I-cord. Well, I prepared handouts, got some good pictures off the internet, and took extra dpns and yarn with me. But the one project that showed…
