The Exleftcoastgirl Returns from Her Hiatus

Well hello everyone. I wish you all a belated Merry Christmas! I took part in a "Secret Santa" gift exchange at one of the high schools. My giftee received a hand-knitted scarf in her favorite color. She also happened to be my Secret Santa, and ended giving me a bag of unskirted Albaca fiber to spin. The person who sold it to her said I should wash it. I peeked in the bag, and I agree. It does need to be washed. Considering the bits and pieces of you-know-what that are in the bag, the fleece… Continue

She's Baaaaack!

Well, it has been very busy over here in Midwest-land. Strange weather. It's winter, it's spring, it's winter. Now it looks like spring, but with the temperatures of winter. Yesterday morning we had snow. Big snow flakes. The students marveled at the size of the snow flakes. "Mrs. Ex," they exclaimed, "the snowflakes are the size of marbles!" It was a little slippery, too, as evidenced by the traffice accident that occurred right outside of school. I never found out what happened, but there… Continue

So, how do YOU relax?

I worked my rear-end off last week. Stayed at school Thursday night until 8:45 p.m., stayed up working at home until 11:00, got to school Friday morning before 7:00 a.m., helped set up 45 laptops in the Media Center (had to remove them and their batteries from carts, take them to tables, turn them on, etc.), and put the finishing touches on my presentation for Friday morning's Professional Development day before 8:00 a.m., for which I didn't get paid. Ahhh, welcome to the public… Continue

Midwest Weather is Strange

Last week it was so cold we had "severe weather alerts" for wind chill. This week we had a heat wave - In the 40's! Last night and today it snowed again. *SIGH* This is when I miss Los Angeles. I miss knowing what to expect weather-wise.

On the knitting front, I've not made much progress on my shawl. I've been sick, so I come home from work, fall asleep, skip dinner, wake up at 11:00 p.m., eat a PopTart, then go to bed. And repeat the next day. The head cold has morphed into some… Continue

The Snow is Melting - Slowly

Last week was soooo cold. How cold was it, you ask? It was below freezing! And the wind chill factor brought the temperature below zero! Yikes. So I am knitting....a shawl. It's a pattern I bought from Susan's Spinning Bunny (I think that's the name). The patterns is named: Faroese Shawlette, and it's very simple. All you need is a pretty yarn, and you let the yarn do the work >^_^< This is the second one I'm knitting. I knit the first for a friend. I used a merino/bamboo blend in a black… Continue

Snow, snow, and more snow

I'm originally from Los Angeles. So what am I doing in the flat, snowy midwest? Why, knitting shawls, of course! They're faster than a sweater. You can gain or lose a few pounds - no worries! Shawl to short? It's a shawlette. Best of all, I don't have to worry about knitting matching sleeves >^_^/body>
