I have made the leap from knitter to designer!
It all started when I wanted to make a lacy shawl out of some gorgeous pink yarn that I bought from a lady who is raising funds for her Komen 3-Day Walk for breast cancer. I bought a pattern from someone else, and while it's a beautiful shawl, it wasn't exactly what I wanted. I started playing around with graph paper until I realized that there had to be a computer program available to make the process easier. Yesterday,… Continue

I'm still here. I've been busy knitting whenever I can. I am going to be doing a spring mystery shawl KAL next month, and when the pattern designer said that we would be adding beads to this shawl, I went to a local bead store to shop.
What have I gotten myself into now?
I walked out of that shop with probably close to 4500 beads, all for that one project. I didn't intend to buy so many purple beads, but I wasn't sure how many beads came on a… Continue

Okay, I have to admit that I am very disappointed with KnitPicks now. On Friday, I received a set of Harmony DPNs. One of the needles had a splintered tip on it and is unusable. Okay, no problem, KnitPicks has a good reputation for fixing problems, right? I placed another order yesterday, and I added a note about the splintered needle, letting… Continue

I was up until 2:30 this morning, knitting my mystery socks. I ended up using the method described in Antje Gillingham's book, Knitting More Circles Around Socks
. Basically, I'm using two circular needles, with half of each sock on a 16" needle and the other halves on a 24" needle. I'm only on the cuffs right now, just three or fours of knitting so far, but it's going well. We'll see if I can work a more complicated pattern once I get my ribbed cuffs finished.
Have I… Continue

I'm not really sure why I've been bitten by the knitting bug lately, but I am starting to worry my husband. I'm spending more time knitting and/or buying yarn than I have quilting, and that is so completely out of the realm of "normal" for me that it's actually a bit frightening.
I'm not complaining, though. I'm having too much fun!
While I was visiting one of my local quilt shops, one of my friends told me that one of her coworkers is an avid… Continue

I haven't had a lot of time to knit lately. Between college classes, the kids, and a possible move, there hasn't been a lot of time for my hobbies.
By the time everyone is in bed, I'm so tired that even my knitting needles feel like they weigh a ton.
Unfortunately, being tired does not always translate to being able to sleep, so I was up until almost 2 o'clock this morning, designing a case for my Harmony Options set. Once I figure out the dimensions and the proper spacing… Continue

I didn't knit at all yesterday. I wanted to, but life got in the way. Life, and quilting. I finally put my second son's quilt on the frame to be quilted, and that took up most of my free time yesterday. It's his first queen-sized quilt (90" x 104"), and I've had the top done since October 2008. Needless to say, it's long overdue, and I need to get it finished. He and his girlfriend are freezing without it, according to my son. I had hoped to get it done by Christmas, but it didn't… Continue

I started a simple stockinette stitch doll afghan on Thursday, when I received my Harmony needles and Swish Worsted yarn. Just 50 stitches. Five rows of knitting, then K5 at the beginning and end of every row, ending with five more rows of knitting. I plan to use the entire skein of yarn on that one project.
Today, after about 9" of knitting, I let my daughter try her hand at knitting the knit rows. I did a lot of "rescuing" as she stitched, but she's starting to get the hang of it.… Continue

And an extra pair of hands would come in handy, too. There are so many fun knitting projects out there, and so little time!
Right now, I am working on a reversible cabled scarf for myself, since we're having a very cold winter here in the Midwest. For that, I'm using a merino wool/cashmere blend that I found at my local yarn shop, and I can't wait to finish it. It's so snuggly!
On another set of needles, I'm making a simple doll afghan out of the Swish Worsted that I… Continue

FedEx just delivered my Harmony Options Set. I love how they feel, and I can't wait to start knitting again.
Unfortunately, I forgot how to cast on. I need to go watch a video or something to help me remember. Seventeen years is a long time.
It's good to be back in the world of knitting. :)

I'm excited to be here. My Harmony set has been shipped and should be here sometime Thursday--I can't wait!
I went on Ravelry last night and added my crochet projects and my knitting yarn stash. I think I'm going to have fun there, too. Until I get my new needles, I won't have any knitting WIPs to post, but I'll add them as soon as I get started knitting again. I'll add pictures as soon as I can, too.
I can definitely see myself knitting more than quilting for a little… Continue

After more than 17 years, I've decided to start knitting again. I started knitting when I was eleven years old, and I continued to dabble in it until my third son was born in 1992. I've done a lot of crocheting since then, and a LOT more quilting (I'm a professional quilter now), but knitting fell by the wayside. That's changed now, so here I am.
I ordered my Harmony needle set yesterday, and I've been visiting my local yarn shop to pick up some sample balls of yarn to use. I'm… Continue
