Tips and Tricks and More: What on earth does this designer mean?

Have you ever been stumped by all those crazy knitting abbreviations? Well, because knitting has developed around the world, there are so many different techniques that are similar and so many terms that really describe the same or very similar things. Therefore you will find that knitting abbreviations will vary. Hopefully the designer will be kind enough to give a list of the abbreviations s/he uses. If not, hopefully these will help.

Knitting, Machine Knitting and Crocheting…

Do You Hoard?

My sweet DH sent me a link this morning. Please check it out here. His comment to me was, "This is what happens when knitters hoard..."

My comment back was, "We don't hoard! Just think of us as the Honor Guard. But doesn't this mean we need to protect more fiber? Off to save some more fiber."

So please do your fair share today and…

Tips and Tricks and More: recap of knitting tips and tricks

This blog will be a WIP. As new blogs are posted with tips, tricks, book reviews and anything else we want to learn about, links to new tips and tricks will be added. Wendy suggested this blog listing everything in one spot. She is the one who made me realize how much I miss blogging. So this one is for you Wendy.

Please note that in earlier posts these tips may be at the end of the blog in the knitting tip…

What do you want to learn?

Okay, this is going to be short and sweet. I haven't blogged in a very long time. I do have things to blog about but just haven't gotten back into the blogging mode after being swamped at work. So I need to organize myself and start blogging again.

I thought what better way to get back into blogging than to ask everyone what knitting or spinning hints they would like to know about. I got this idea from Wendy when she mentioned tonight that she was going to check out one of my old…

They Say It's My Birthday!

Well, I haven't accomplished much over the last week, but I certainly have had a wonderful time. Last Wednesday, I received a package from Debra's Garden.

What on earth had I ordered? I don't remember ordering anything. The phone rings. No. 4 son has injured himself biking. He was on his way to work. Could I please come pick…

Kids 'n Ewe

Oh, we had a wonderful time yesterday at Kids 'n Ewe. It was a long day. I got vetoed on leaving between 6:30 and 7 am. My DH and son decided 8 am was plenty early enough but we didn't get on the road until 9 am. It's a 4 hour drive from Houston to Boerne, Texas. So we arrived about 1pm. That's okay. It's a small fiber festival. We had plenty of time to see what all was going on. I mean it's not like we were going to Rhinebeck!

Texas is not filled with fiber fests. But…

Spindle Heaven!

I think I'm obsessed with spindles — even more so than yarn stash. That's pretty hard to believe. I currently have spinning projects on, not 1, not 2, not 3, but on 11 different spindles! How did that happen? I have no idea. How can I have accumulated so many spindles in such a short time? My original spindle was purchased in August of 2009, but I didn't get up enough nerve to give it a try until early last June.

I seem to flit from SIP

Thank you, KP!!! You outdid yourself! So did I dye and go to Heaven or to Hell? Oh, am I the Scarlett Pimpernel?

"We seek him here,

we seek him there

Those Frenchies seek him everywhere!

Is he in heaven? Or is he in hell?

That demmed Elusive Pimpernel?

Well, knitters, I've been having a hard time getting back into blogging. I just can't seem to consistently get myself organized.

I've been…

An Ode to Kathy

I wish this could be an ode to my sister, but I am not a poet and any poem I could write would not do justice to my sister Kathy. So instead I will tell you a little bit about her.

Kathy was always very quiet and never got in trouble. She was dyslexic. This was before dyslexia was talked…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my sister, Kathy!

Susan BKL and Peggy Stuart are wonderful at goading me into new experiences. Along with Irene Soileau, they talked me into posting pictures and blogging. Then Susan and Peggy convinced me I should try my hand at spinning. I was always reluctant to spin because I felt that I wanted to concentrate on knitting. After hearing Ann Shayne [½ of the Mason Dixon say she had no intentions of learning to spin, I thought, “Okay, I don’t need to spin. I… Continue

Sometimes Life Just Gets in the Way

Please accept my deepest

apologies for such a long time in between my blogs. First there was an appeal that interfered. Then in the middle of the appeal, my computer crashed. Then a complaint in Federal court had to be amended. Another matter had discovery due. Then the other attorney we are working with, offices from his home. His house and office were destroyed by fire. All his files were destroyed. He and his wife are okay, but their three cats did not make it. It’s been…

Is Knitting Hazardous?

My dear sweet husband is constantly reminding me I shouldn’t leave knitting needles in bed. Even if I get up for just a second to go to the bathroom, he gets upset if I leave needles on the bed. I mean how can knitting be hazardous to our health? He tells me I’m going to have a really difficult time explaining to the police how I didn’t murder him. How am I going to explain all the…

Knitta Little, Lova Little

I have been busy with work so not much knitting has occurred.

Although I wasn’t born in Houston, it is my hometown. My parents moved here when I was about 18 months old. So I only remember visits to my birth place, actually mostly just driving through my birth place, Lafayette, Louisiana, on the way…

The Tax Man Cameth

Not much has been going on in the knitting front since the Tax Man Cometh.

When the DH and I were first married, we had no money. Once when talking with one of my sisters I was complaining that he would give me only $25 for groceries. Well, my sister thought I was being…

Sometimes it's the very simple thing that makes life easier.

I had not been a part of the popular crowd in high school. I stood in the shadows of my older siblings. My oldest sister was extremely popular, she was always voted Most Beautiful. She was a cheerleader, not just in junior high school and high school but also at the University of Texas. I was never popular in high school. So when I went off to college I spread my wings. My poor DH [though far from my DH… Continue

What? So you mean I lied and make up a word?

My sisters and I self-published a knitting journal 6 years ago. Personally I felt it was the best knitting journal around, seriously! But we had no idea how hard the publishing world is and how fickle the knitting world can be. Our journal, Knit Notes, was an 8½ x 5½ binder so that you…
