mawata, socks, sweater, oh my!

So the other week i bought my first mawata.  it is gorgeous.  i am trying to make the helix scarf with it.  i am not sure how i am doing, but it seems to be coming along.drafting is proving interesting.  i have never spun or drafted before, but this seems like a good place to start to get a feel for fiber.  granted, it is sticky and catches on everything; including air; but the fibers are long, which makes it a little more difficult to not pull them apart.  stay tuned for an…

cocktails and dreams.... to cashmere and dreams?

i have been toying around with the idea of starting a yarn shop. I know this is a HUGER than HUGE endeavor, but it has just been popping around in my mind. why you might ask?

1. it all started when i realized the Dayton area lacks a great yarn shop. one that does not feel like it is an attic, or old, or someplace where you feel like home and can plop down on the couch and knit.

2. one of my SIL's (who knits) her job ended. she wasn't fired or…

a bit off topic

so, this post is not about knitting; but just a need to release (as vent is not the right word)

i have a 3yo boy, MC who gets lights (green, yellow and red) based on behavior. He has been getting yellows for hitting, kicking, spitting, etc... for awhile now, we have a rewards program in place which works occasionally.

today, he got a yellow for hitting a female peer in the face with a toy (not throwing, but hitting her with teh toy), screaming at…

my first real pair of socks

I finished my first real pair of grown up sized socks.
I was worried when i started that i didn't LOVE it like so many talk about; but i really enjoyed them, especially once i got the hang of it - the increases, decreases, etc....
I am now working on another pair :)

my first finished sock

So i finally finished my first sock. I did it top down - took the pattern from Melissa morgan Oakes TAAT socks book-- even though i only did one. it says it is a toddler size- but it doesn't fit my toddler son. he's 3. but that's ok. my next one will be a top down sock of the same simplicity- ki1p1 ribbing at top and stst the rest of the way. It took forever to get this pic posted. I plan on making another one as a top down sock, this one has a few holes in it.… Continue

first attempt at socks

so i have started this endeavor. i really don't know what i am doing, but with the help of Kelly's video tutorial and a few books- i am muddling through. right now i have finished the leg and working on the heel flap. I am not sure what i think yet- i am not trying to develop an opinion. if i was smart, i would not be using sock yarn or tiny needles. and originally i was going to do toddler socks to get the basics, but then i decided to jump the gun and if i was gonig to make a sock, i…

spring essential sweater

Finally it is done. I finished sewing it together tonight, about 2 hours ago - as it has taken me that long to figure out how to SUCCESSFULLY up load a pic.

I would not have been able to complete this without the help and support of my friends on here and ravelry.

The neckline lower than what i would allow my…

4/2/10

So i am still working on the sweater. i think i have about 2 inches done. i know not alot, but it is coming and i am working on a baby blanket for my best friend. it is a block pattern- seed stitch squares and lace squares and seed stitch border. so nothing too too exciting, but i am anxious about blocking it and then putting it all together.

I had a knitty expierence today, i had a dentist appointment and so i brought the seed stitch border i am working on, and was waiting…
