I have been terrible at taking pictures and blogging about finished projects. I really, really have been knitting as much as ever, and here is a little proof. This is my Nederland Vest (from the fall 2008 issue of KnitScene) in… Continue
When I became a member of this wonderful community on Knit Picks only one month ago, I was hesitant and shy, initally feeling as though I didn't belong, really, and might even be an "imposter" since I was just learning to knit, and could only do the garter stitch. Soon after joining, however, Susan the Blue Lake Knitter started corresponding with me and made me feel right at home. As I started reading posts and became more involved in the community I also got to "meet" Cheryl Waters and Peggy St… Continue
If you were watching the Alpaca Cam yesterday, you may have seen the alpacas greeting me as I arrived at the ranch.
I got my spinning set up and started work on the orange-rust hand-dyed alpaca I was working on the day before. The alpacas had visitors of all ages during the day.

I was awakened this morning before 5am by my DH feeding the dogs... he woke up before 5am, SO EXCITED about going to A Wool Gathering in Yellow Springs, OH that he took a shower, got dressed, fed the dogs and was gradually waking me up too. I finally crawled out of bed sometime after 5:30... still pretty sleepy, but waking up. After two cups of tea, and checking my email, I got dressed, gathered up all of the things I was taking with me, and at 6:45 a.m. we departed. We topped off the gas tank,… Continue
I can't stop. My fingers are starting to cramp from the tiny needles, but I keep going. I made two of my sons a pair each (they got to pick their own yarn), and then I made myself a pair, and now I'm working away at making them for the entire extended family as Christmas presents. They're small, they're cozy, they don't take a lot of yarn, and they're new and exciting after years of knitting scarves and mittens and hats and the occasional sweater.
These are my sons':… Continue
I have felt like I had a cold for the past week, my allergies have been horrible lately (itchy ears, sneezing...) I'm not sure what I am allergic to, but this is the worst it's ever been for me. I changed allergy medicine so hopefully that will help. I hope it ends soon!
Today I had my fourth annual star wars marathon!
This all started the year I was going into 9th grade. Me and two or three of my friends decided we were going to watch all the Star Wars movies in chronological order one day. It was so much fun that we have done it again and again and again, and each year more people come, and more people bring food/baked goods (this year we had a full table, there were two huge plates of cookies, a pie, a carrot cake, fried dough, homemade applesauce, and other… Continue

As most of you know, I am learning how to spin. I started four months ago trying to use a drop spindle, and after many failed attempts and a few drops, I figured it out. Then I had to have a spinning wheel! Thanks to Kelley Petkun and Peggy Stuart, I decided that I had to have a Kromski Sonata. Well I've been trying several different types of fiber: merino, alpaca and now Corriedale (ah, success!). This is the first little bit of two-ply yarn spun on my Sonata.

It would figure, the week I stray from KP and place a large order for some other wool, they have their sale! I still have to order for a couple of projects yet and their prices are quite reasonable all the time that I am not too disappointed that I will miss it. I just received the book Son of a Stitch and Bitch and seen a couple of projects in there that were knit with KP yarns and Jared Flood's Smokin Jacket that will knit up with Wool of the Andes bulky for a fraction of the price using Rowan… Continue

Well, I got my Mother's Day knitting done in time for my family (daughter, grandchildren, son-in-law) to get their presents yesteday. They have promised pics, but haven't gotten them yet.
I started a new Knitted Bolero pattern (I'm using Comfy in crocus) to make this Kelley Maher design:
Any way, I like to think I'm a pretty good knitter, and the lace pattern is so, so simple...
but, everytime I turn around I have created an ext… Continue
I'm new to this community and to KnitPicks itself, although I've heard of it and browsed the site many times. I finally ordered some yarn and needles when my mother asked me to knit her a pair of socks and our LYS had already shut down and I had no other choice but to order yarn from somewhere. I decided on KnitPicks mainly for the reasonable prices on their sock yarn, but when my order came in and I felt it, I knew I'd probably order more of it. I ordered two balls of Glacial and two balls of T… Continue
This is a huge step for me, starting a Knit-a-long: Knitting Goes Large KAL ... I'm like one of those people with grand ideas, tell everyone what I'm going to do, and then never do it. Not because I don't want to, but because I just had another idea - and went flitting off in another direction. Well, now I'm being held accountable by all who join this KAL... I've decided to knit the Cabled Vest in… Continue
We've received several questions about the development of City Tweed and especially how we chose the colors for the DK and HW (heavy worsted) lines, so we thought we'd have a little fun and film a short video about it! Continue
Garage Sale Bargains--Yippee!
One of my favorite things about springtime and nice weather (which we're lucky to have some of this week in Eugene--summer doesn't reliably arrive in this part of the country until July) is garage sales. Best of all is finding a garage sale that has yarn, good yarn, and especially really inexpensive, good yarn. Today I found such a garage sale. Three bags of wool, alpaca and cotton yarns, and a cane thrown in, all for $5! Continue
I was searching for a new sock pattern when I came across Berroco knits page. They have a sock pattern called "Stroll"! Isn't that a funny coincidence?!! Continue
