Susan the Blue Lake Knitter More FO's

I only have about two months before Christmas, and I am trying like MAD to get all of the gifts knitted in time. My spinning has really cut into my time, but I love spinning so much, that I just have to do what I can do. I also took nearly an entire day to meet one of my good online KP friends - but that was well worth the time. Yes, Carol, I am talking about you! I have finished two projects during the past two days. One is a scarf that I imagined using Palette... Salsa Heather and Golden Hea… Continue

Terry Pattern #3: Modified Helmet Liner

MODIFIED HELMET LINER.doc The Angels for Soldiers group on Ravelry has been making helmet liners and many other items for our U.S. troops and allied troops stationed overseas. This pattern is a modified version of the helmet liner which helps insulate the soldier's head and also helps to keep the sand out of their hair. It uses short ro… Continue

Susan the Blue Lake Knitter Time for Susan to Experiment with Dyeing

Peggy and Barbara have both blogged about their recent (and past) experiments with dyeing. I have read, researched, reread, drilled Peggy about how she did her dyeing.... OK, now it's my turn! This week I found an inexpensive stainless steel pot ( I think I'm going to like this), stocked up on food coloring (a box of 4, plus black), then measured 4 4-oz packages of Polypay wool. This is some of the wool I was given early in the summer, and am just now getting around to playing with it. After my… Continue

Bobbie Kolehouse Oh but what about this one? Or this one?

My Cranberry Festival version of Kay Meadors' First Shawl is completed except for weaving in a few ends. I washed it and blocked it and took pictures. It is far from perfect...oh so far... but I learned about lace and refreshed my knitting long dormant knitting skills.

Susan the Blue Lake Knitter A Wool Gathering - Part 2

I iniitally learned about A Wool Gathering from my friend, and guild leader, Marlene who has her own little company, Marlene's Felting Madness (where she performs works of art with wool, water, soap and a lot of hard work), and a fiber farm, Timber Ridge Farm, where she has Wensleydale sheep, Angora goats, a few llamas, a few horses, and a bunch of dogs. She was one of the vendors at this event. Note: I was a guinnea pig for Marlene several months ago, and performed this task... This is hard wo… Continue

Susan the Blue Lake Knitter A Wool Gathering - Part 1

I was awakened this morning before 5am by my DH feeding the dogs... he woke up before 5am, SO EXCITED about going to A Wool Gathering in Yellow Springs, OH that he took a shower, got dressed, fed the dogs and was gradually waking me up too. I finally crawled out of bed sometime after 5:30... still pretty sleepy, but waking up. After two cups of tea, and checking my email, I got dressed, gathered up all of the things I was taking with me, and at 6:45 a.m. we departed. We topped off the gas tank,… Continue

Jenny Allergies and A Lot of Knitting

I have felt like I had a cold for the past week, my allergies have been horrible lately (itchy ears, sneezing...) I'm not sure what I am allergic to, but this is the worst it's ever been for me. I changed allergy medicine so hopefully that will help. I hope it ends soon!

I will stop complaining now and talk a… Continue

Bobbie Kolehouse Lookin' easy but ... hmmm

My first rib warmer is constructed but needs to be washed and blocked. I like it but but it is bulkier than I thought it would be. When I saw the sample in the local store, it seemed more finished and something you could wear to work. And maybe it can be but mine looks more like something to wear around the house in winter. I checked my gauge it was accurate but I added two rows to one side and that makes it a bit wider at the bottom on that side. I didn't see that until after I had it sewn tog… Continue

Susan the Blue Lake Knitter Appalachian Ohio Fiber Guild Fun

I took a brief break from my knitting this afternoon to attend out monthly Fiber Guild meeting. We are making plans for community service projects, our June retreat, and trying desperately to increase our membership. Today we learned about micron count of fibers, and the other factors that go into the make up of our animal fiber yarns. Several of the members raise angora goats, sheep, and alpacas for their fiber. Here are some pictures of home spun yarns from these natural fibers. Alpaca:… Continue

Peggy Stuart Living and Dyeing

Well, I finally did it, and here is the result: KoolAid This is the roving I dyed using Kool-Aid® and black food coloring. I chose to use Kool-Aid®, because I could see whether I liked doing it before going out in search of a pot and other equipment that would have to be dedicated… Continue

Sewcrazy Woot! I did it....

So, I called the local(45 miles away) LYS, got directions, and off Lu(DD) and I went in search of a spindle and some fluffy bits. One basic drop spindle, one bag of alpaca(prettiful), one bag of jacob wool(guard hairs explained), and one stringdoll(too cute) later and we were heading home again. The ladies were very helpful and explained the basics. I have researched, viewed every video and site (thanks Peggy!) suggested, and felt ready to finally try this spinning thing out. OH...My...Gosh! T… Continue

Peggy Stuart David's Cap is Finished!

David's cap is dry and ready to send to Wisconsin. I had a lot of fun making it. I blocked it by wetting it with Kookaburra Wool Wash and letting it dry on a balloon blown up to the size of David's head. (I got the idea from my friend Rob, who is an avid knitter, and is now in Hawaii...knitting a scarf!) Here's what it looks like-- Continue

TropicFlower He will provide.

The bank promised me $25 for a referral..... I was planning on buying a lot of WotA with it to make gloves for my siblings. I had my order filled out all ready when I found out that I was not going to get the money after all. This was quite frustrating, and slightly irritating, seeing as they had over 3 months to tell me this, and multiple chances to point this out. BUT I am human, and I make mistakes. I really have no place critiquing them for making a mistake. My mom offered to give me the mon… Continue

Chrissyb Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool #21 - does anyone have any left?

I'm about 4 inches of a sleeve and a neck edging short of finishing a lovely sweater for my husband - and I've run out of yarn! It turns out the yarn was discontinued in Fall 2007 - yes, I've been working on it slowly! So I'm hoping someone, somewhere has a skein left over? It's Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool, Color #21 (Bilberry). Let me know if you can help? Thanks Christine Continue
