High Fiber—Giving Thanks for...Local! Yarn! Shop!

Wasatch & Wool just opened up near me, about five minutes by car.

It's the first yarn shop in Park City in many years that wasn't in a corner of another store. We have had a Michael's for several years, but if you wanted…

High Fiber—Monkey Brain

My Mr. F. is moving along.

He's still headless, but at least he has arms now. They look rather flabby, though. I need to take him to Silver Sneakers with me so he can lift some weights.

Mr. F. has been a major UFO since 2009, when I got two arms and one leg done (almost) and quit. Now he's…

High Fiber—Nesting for Winter

Why is my yarn stash in guest room?

This isn't even all of it. Not all of the yarn is in view. I would need a wide-angle lens to get it all in.

Back to the question: A few months ago we discovered we had moths, originating in our Navajo rugs in the storeroom. While I was sad about…

High Fiber—Love and Generosity

Wow! What a week! I always have to start with a photo, so here's Kay's rug:

She based this on a photo she took while on a cruise with her late husband. He helped her with suggestions and was a major contributor to keeping her interested in the project. It has been languishing since he passed away, but…

High Fiber—End of Winter? Beginning of Summer?

Just a few days before the first day of summer, we got a huge snowstorm.

This is the snow coming off the roof. Where we live, it's common to get snow in June, but it doesn't usually accumulate.

The storm hit on Tuesday, catching us by surprise (rain was predicted) as…

High Fiber—New Beginnings

This week has been crazy! Besides trips to eye doctor, dentist and Apple store for a new iPad, I made a trip to Shepherd's Bush and Needlepoint Joint in Ogden with friends from Common Threads.

Shepherd's Bush has an entry way full of projects. …

High Fiber—Adorableness

Get ready for adorableness.

Georgette made these booties using a kit she bought during their recent trip to New Zealand.

We met for Common Threads at Margareth's new place. She has moved in with her fiancée. The house is really nice. …

High Fiber—Cold and Colds, Mishaps and Repairs

It's been a hard week in the mountains of Utah. The weather was part of it.

That was taken Wednesday. We had several more inches over the weekend. I had to turn off the alerts on my weather app, because it kept waking me up at night and annoying me during the daytime. (As if I couldn't just…

Last weekend was the rug weaving class with Jason Collingwood, "Four-end Blockweaves."

We met at the Officer's Club at Ft. Douglas in Salt Lake City. The class was sponsored by the Mary Meigs Atwater Weavers Guild.

Jason…

High Fiber—Daphne Days

Daphne is fascinated by her new quilt.

It's the I Spy quilt I made for her. It was a special present for her, and the train quilt is for her brother, Zachary, who is due to arrive any time now, which is why we're in Wisconsin. She knew who we were, thanks to Skype.

We've been doing things with her. Daphne is such an angel, complete with halo!

Grandpa's 'puter is…

This scrumptious array of fabrics is what greets you when you enter Sharon's Attic Quilt Shop in Hillsboro, Oregon. The shop was just a close walk from DS2’s and DDIL2's home in Beaverton.

High Fiber—More Oregon Visit

Flashback to July 6th:

New DDIL, Alexa, and I got to visit Crafts Americana's office in Vancouver. Crafts Americana is home to Knit Picks and Connecting Threads and host to the Knitting Community and Quilt With Us. In the photo above are (from left) Jenny, Kerin, Alisha, me, Alexa and Alison.

Alison met us in the lobby and gave us the grand tour of the company. The ground floor entrance area was manned by the great people of…

High Fiber—Big Events!

As if the wedding a week ago wasn't enough, the days that followed included a variety of fiber events that place high on what would be my bucket list.

Tuesday, Eevi Emminger, founder of Mitts of Steal, and I went to the Beaverton Fresenius Clinic to deliver fingerless mitts to patients there.

Wednesday, new DIL and I went to Crafts Americana to visit the office of Knit… Continue

Busy, Busy...This and That

Between cleaning the fiber studio, finishing up Ravelympics stuff and normal activities, it's been a busy week.

Above is what the fiber studio looks like today, after nearly two days of work. The piles of finished projects and the bags of projects in my pipeline or queue are still lurking. The white shrouded thing on the back counter is my serger. The pink mass peeking out from under the table that looks like cotton candy is some… Continue
