I'm new to this community and to KnitPicks itself, although I've heard of it and browsed the site many times. I finally ordered some yarn and needles when my mother asked me to knit her a pair of socks and our LYS had already shut down and I had no other choice but to order yarn from somewhere. I decided on KnitPicks mainly for the reasonable prices on their sock yarn, but when my order came in and I felt it, I knew I'd probably order more of it. I ordered two balls of Glacial and two balls of T…

The whole idea of attaching a disembodied needle point to a cable, and then having it work exactly right seemed ludicrous; I was sure this type of needle would be awkward and irritating. I remember seeing ads for the Denise set. I thought, "No way those work as well !" Even if it meant slowly acquiring expensive Addi turbos.
Then Addi came out with their own convertible needle set. If Addi did it, there must be something to recommend the whole thing. But the pricetag was so outrageous that I di…

Bon Jour!
No, I am not dead, didn't leave the country, shred my sock and quit or any other drastic thing. I gave up on the round pointed metal needles and ordered those lovely Harmony wood DPs. They are a dream. I had the top of the sock ( the very 1st sock) 1/2 done. I started working with the new needles and the 1st 1/2 looked
like crap SO I ripped out all the way back to the ribbing (2-1/2 inches long).
In the meantime, I had a fibro flare and was down for several days. Got up just in time…

Howdy! I knit all my socks, toe up, on 2 circular needles. Before finding KnitPicks, I bought the more expensive brands, not knowing any better.
I've tried the magic loop, using one long circular needle and found that the 2 circular needles were easier to handle.
After finding KnitPicks, I bought a few sock yarns, and went crazy! KnitPicks is my only source for sock yarns. I love the prices and quality! I've knitted over 15 pairs of socks in the last couple of years and my family loves them.…

Here's what I have going right now:
1) A pair of 2X2 rib socks for my DH (Shhh! It's a secret) in Swish DK garnet heather with maple leaf and wooly nylon for the heels and toes
2) My EZ's Stonington Shawl (worked on last night after Thanksgiving dinner at a friend's) in Alpaca Cloud smoke
3) Nicky Epstein's Yei Figures bag in Jamieson's DK
4) An afghan in Aran-weight merino wool purchased in New Zealand
5) A hat for daughter's boyfriend using hand-spun alpaca purchased at a local alpaca farm
6)…

I had to smile when I heard your newest podcast on making scarves. I just got my new size 7 (10" straight) Harmony Needles. And I just fell in love! I cast on a scarf I revised from a Ripple Shawl Pattern (multiple of 18 + 6 st);
Cast on 30 sts (worsted weight wool blend)
ROW 1: (rs) Knit
ROW2: K6, purl to last 6, K6
ROW3: K6, *[K2 tog] 3 times, [YO,K1] 6 times, [K2 tog] 3times; repeat from * to last 6 sts, K6.
ROW4: Knit
I also did a scarf using Knit Picks Comfy Yarn in Honey Dew, using the…

Between stranded colorwork projects with
Palette, socks, and sweaters with sport weight yarn, I tend to do a lot of fine gauge knitting. I also tend to be a slightly loose knitter, so I often find myself using the smallest recommended needle size for a particular weight of yarn (or smaller) to get a fabric that I like. For some reason, my hands are just the happiest knitting with skinny yarn and skinny needles.
As a resul…

I am trying to decide between the KnitPicks Options Needles and the Denise Knitting Needle System. (what a mouthful) I have heard good things about both of them and bad things about both. I am leaning towards the Options needles but I am unsure about getting them because I don't have that much money. I don't have enough to buy a couple of tips and a cable to test the Options needles out. My mom is getting Denise and I am going to try those.
If anybody here has tried both Denise and Options, wou…

So most people don't know but I have had major tooth trauma and repair over the past few years. I won't go into details but I will say always wear a mouth guard, even if it is beer league softball, you just never know when one might catch you in the face. Anyway, before this incident…

Swatching is so very important. It will make the difference as to whether your sweater will fit or not. Knit that swatch. Be sure you get gauge. I would rather have the sweater fit instead of finding someone to fit the sweater. Did I mention to swatch?
Beginners and some experienced knitters will ask “Why swatch?” The answer is simple. Your chosen yarn may not be appropriate to the pattern. The tension of the knitter may be too loose resulting in a garment that is too big. Or the tension is too…

I'm betting that most knitters have sometime or another lost or damaged a needle, leaving them with only half a pair. I know I have. If you've ever wondered whether there was a use for a single lonesome needle, here is your answer! . . .
I teach art to children ages 4-14. I want to teach them to knit, and I've been blessed with a generous donation of yarn, but we don't have enough needles.
If anyone has a lonesome needle that used to be part of a pair, I could put it to very good use by pairin…
