AmyL Fall Felting

The weather is turning colder, and it's a great time to be thinking about warm slippers, hot cider, and snuggling by the fire under a cozy afghan. I'm busy with several felting projects at the moment, and fall is such a nice time to work on things like that. I've got 4 pairs of slippers in process (serially, not concurrently) - one pair in the Laced Slippers Pattern, and I'm working on the

Peachy Queen Lace 9; PeachyQueen 0

Yes, it's been one of those projects. I mentioned the Atlanta "Secret" KAL which is supposed to be my first lace project. I'm having some .... challenges, and I've only started the swatch. First, I needed the find the right gauge. I am using fingering weight yarn because lace weight seemed a bit ambitious. I started with a size 4 needle (which was recommended), went down to a 2, and now I'm up to a 10. The many attempts I've made do look lacy. Unfortunately, I can't seem to hold onto the yarn o… Continue

Peachy Queen Back to reality

I'm back from Franklin, TN. While I really enjoyed spending time with my parents, it is good to be home. Their house is just not designed for two rambunctious boys. My mother and I agreed that knitting camp was something of a bust. Our plan was to take a bunch of knitting or fiber-related classes at the LYS. Unfortunately, few of the classes were offered at times convenient to us, and private lessons were more than we wanted to spend. I then borrowed EZ's DVD Knitting Workshop from the Atlanta… Continue

Kim Starting a new KAL - Knitting Goes Large

This is a huge step for me, starting a Knit-a-long: Knitting Goes Large KAL ... I'm like one of those people with grand ideas, tell everyone what I'm going to do, and then never do it. Not because I don't want to, but because I just had another idea - and went flitting off in another direction. Well, now I'm being held accountable by all who join this KAL... I've decided to knit the Cabled Vest in… Continue

Amy New Yarn, UFOs, and decisions, Oh My!

I received the my yarn for the classic lines cardigan KAL (and there was much rejoicing), BUT I'm still working on my fiance's sweater. I'd rather not have more than one sweater on the needles if possible - though I do have the needles to do it. FH's sweater is over half-way done, as it is. All that is left is 1.5 sleeves and ribbing for the collar. I might be able to finish if I do nothing but knit this weekend... In any case, I'm really tempted to start on the cardigan anyway. Or at least wind… Continue

Peggy Stuart What I Learned from the Hemlock Ring Speed-knitting KAL

It was a crazed three days and two nights! I had a great time, and was pleased to come in third. At 66, I was probably one of the oldest participants. On the other hand, I'm retired, with no small children living at home (unless you count my DH and two wonderful mini-poos.) I learned some things from the contest, some things from the Hemlock Ring project and some things from the experience as a whole. Here's my Hemlock Ring, enjoying time with the family--… Continue
