High Fiber—Spring Comes to the Mountains!

Our daffodils bloomed just in time for Mother's Day!

The hummingbirds are back, too. The hiking trails are almost clear of snow. The mud is starting to dry on the trails, so we decided to take a hike in Toll Canyon, near our home, on Wednesday. It looked like a nice day when we started out, but it…

High Fiber—Progress on All Fronts

I've been spinning some Knit Picks Full Circle Spinning Roving in various colors. Currently, I have "Pigeon" on the wheel. Here are all the colors together:

All that's missing from the photo is the fiber currently on the wheel (although you can see some of the pale-gray "Pigeon" already spun in the…

High Fiber—New Beginnings

My carpet warp came, along with five wooden bobbins for my boat shuttles, which I ordered from the Yarn Barn in Lawrence, Kansas. The bobbins will be used to make scarves out of my sock yarn (and other) stash:

I wasted no time getting my loom ready to go…

High Fiber—Back on My Rocker and Weaving Looming Large!

We picked up my new loom on Wednesday and set it up in the living room until spring.

Joanie's son, Mike, helped take it partially apart, so he came along to help put it back together.…

High Fiber—Seams About Right!

The quilting bug has hit me again:

I just finished this quilt top which will be a topper for our little table in the living room. The quilt contains several fabrics I received for Christmas along with some I bought when I visited DS1 and DDIL1 in Kokomo last year.

The sewing "fit" followed a…

High Fiber—Happy New Year!

Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year!

Christmas was good, but my birthday, which started at a few minutes after 10:00 PM, which was a few minutes after midnight in Florida, where I was born many, many years ago, sucked! Well, this was supposed to be the "Big 70." It was, actually 70, but it was by far the worst birthday of my life, if you don't…

High Fiber—Prelude to Christmas.

I can't believe that a week from today will be Christmas Eve!

The realization is sinking in, though. We had Sundance volunteer sign-up on Monday, in preparation for the festival in January. Another reminder was holiday parties have been taking place with greater frequency. It's great to see old friends and relatively new but very special friends as…

High Fiber—Jumping the Rails

I had to take time out from the Dogwood Blossoms Cardigan this week to make pajamas for a pair of dolls:
The dolls are the Bitty Twins from American Girl. You can buy them a variety of races,…

Stork Union Allows Easter Bunny To Deliver Baby

After circling the house for two weeks and unable to find a place to land, the Stork Delivery Service gave up and allowed the Easter Bunny to take over for an early Easter morning Delivery.

He arrived at 13 minutes after midnight on Easter morning. His weight was 8 lbs 4 oz and he measured 20.5 oz.…

High Fiber—Waiting for Baby

I'm knitting little things:

It's a pair of socks for me, out of Knit Picks Stroll Glimmer in "Fiji." The Dogwood Blossoms sweater is too difficult to work on with Miss Daphne in the room. She had to take each ball of yarn out of the bag, and a couple of times pulled the sts out of my needles. The socks are easier to hold onto and walk around…

High Fiber—A New Thread

I'm running a week behind because of the review of the yarn shop last week.

This week, I'll be showing off some of the work from my friends at Vintage Stitchers. Brenda has a new long-arm quilting machine. She practiced on the quilt above. Here's her chicken quilt, done on the new machine.

Barbara's done with the binding for her great-grandson's car seat…

High Fiber—Happy Holidays, Part Two

I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday! I did! A few of us also had a birthday. This was my birthday haul:

Not in the photo are a gift card from Barnes and Noble, a bud vase that looks like knitting and a share in a  Knitters Gift Basket from Heifer International. It includes a llama, an alpaca, a sheep and an angora rabbit. What a great gift! There is…

High Fiber—Final Fitting

The Prayer Cardi for Jim fit perfectly!

If you have been following my blogs, you know the story behind this sweater. For those of you who haven't read my past posts, this cardigan has an interesting story. My DSIL, who passed away a year ago in October, started this for her husband, Jim. Before she died, she…

High Fiber—Happy Holidays, Part One

Remember Brenda and her scarves from two weeks ago? Lynda was bitten by the bug!

The pattern is available from Tahki Stacy Charles and is called Filatura di Crosa's Free Scarf Pattern. She has become the queen of scarves, and has her gift list taken care of. We had our knitting group meeting a few days ago. This shows what happens when…

High Fiber—Family Visits, Part One

We have been on the road since Tuesday. In the car, I got a good start on the kilt hose for DH:

The knitting and the audiobooks make the time go by fast.

We arrived in Peru, IN, Thursday afternoon and have been having a nice visit with DS1 and his DW.

DS had the day off on Friday, so we took the pups (four, including ours and their Westies, Koko and Odie) to the dog park in…

High Fiber--Farewell and Back to Normal

Miss Daphne and her family are on their way home.

You will see in the photo the felted diaper bag in use, Karen's new felted bag she got for Christmas lying in a bin, Daphne in her BSJ. David isn't wearing his scarf in the photo. Here it is in use:

High Fiber--Family and Friends...and Birthday!

What a Christmas it has been! How wonderful to have family around you with it's accompanying chaos!

Daphne's BSJ is perfect; just big enough to be able to last for a while, but still small enough to wear now! The quilt was a big hit, too! They loved the colors and the label with the photo of their little…

High Fiber--Bound for Heaven!

This week found DH and me on a snowshoe outing with a special purpose.

As you may know, my DSIL, Eileen, passed away October 4th. She wanted her ashes scattered at the top of one of the local ski resorts, on the snow. We had to do this before the resort opened but after there was snow to snowshoe on. Friday…

High Fiber--Fun with Family and Fiber

All three of our kids came over the weekend to visit my DSIL Eileen, who has been battling cancer and has stopped treatment. DD brought her daughter, Daphne, which gave Grandma a little more baby time, something delightful, although I wish it were under happier circumstances. Here's Eileen and Daphne:

Daphne made the rounds, of course. Here she is with DS1, her Uncle Timo:…
