When the weather turned chilly, I realized that Alice had outgrown all the hats she had as a newborn last winter. Knitting to the rescue! I'd had my eye on the Aviatrix Baby Hat pattern for a while, so that was an easy choice. Then I just had to go stash diving for the perfect yarn. I landed on… Continue
I have been talking a lot lately about spinning, dyeing wool, etc. But I've been knitting too, and I have the pictures to prove it.
The first finished baby item: My Simply Cotton Hooded Receiving Blanket/Spa Towel
My husbands alpaca socks, he agreed to model them for me:

As many of you remember, back in June our guild decided to do something we are calling "The Apron Project". Each member gets or makes an apron, then they do something to embellish their apron, they they pass it off to one of the other guild members, and that guild member also does something to embellish the apron... we continue this process until each person has embellished each apron. We can pretty much do whatever we want to do, but hopefully it will be something utilizing an animal fiber.

I've had a busy few days. Since Friday I have been working on my alpaca Lacey Baktus. I'm nearly half finished, but wanted to share with you what a pretty scarf/shawl it is turning into. At this point I can tell that it is going to take two skeins of the alpaca, when I thought one would do it. And it will be much more like a shawl than a scarf, too. Should be at the halfway point by tomorrow, and I will know for sure the finished size. This will make a very nice Christmas gift for a very special… Continue
Nina already blogged about our Little Bubbles Baby Set, but I thought I would share my experience photographing it on my 3 month old yesterday because it is so entertaining. We needed a modeled picture of the pinks set for banner ads, and the sample was knit in the 0-6 month size, so it was Alice's big break into modeling.… Continue
We're all excited about the release of our Little Bubbles Baby Set , but I think I'm a little bit extra excited, because this was my first big design project here at Knit Picks, and I've been holding my tongue a… Continue
I'm back at work from maternity leave and feeling good. I actually missed work--I guess that's a good sign that I love my job, eh? For those of you who didn't read the news elsewhere and are wondering, my baby girl was born on February 11 (two weeks late!), and we named her Alice Irene. I have more to blog about in the coming weeks, including a free baby sock pattern, but for now I'm going to leave you with a photo of Alice at 9 weeks old wearing the chocolate cupcake hat that… Continue
This is the OpArt Baby Blanket from Fall 2008 Knitty. I immediately fell in love with it because not only is it not overly baby it appeals to the graphic design side of me. At the time I wasn't pregnant but knew that was part of the… Continue
My baby blanket is coming along nicely, and I've restarted the socks I'd begun just after Christmas, as: (a) the cats had a field day with them, and (b) as DH was clearing away the Christmas tree, some of the working yarn got caught up in the needles and sap. However, they are looking neater, although I'd still like to learn about knitting from the toe-up on one circ. needle, 2 socks at a time, so the cuff looks nicer ...and I finally saw that there's a book which shows how! I couldn't find it i… Continue
Although I have learned to knit and crochet in middle school, I have always been more familiar with knitting and fearing crochet. For some reason, my stitches were never even when crocheting. I finally gathered enough courage to teach myself to crochet from the scratch this past year, and thanks to the help of my local library books, I was able to finish simple projects, one by one .
The Chrysanthemum Tea Shawls from Amazing Crochet Lace by Doris Chan made fantastic Christmas pres… Continue
Lately it seems like all I've knit are baby gifts. Since we launched Comfy this Spring I've made two baby sweaters from it, and while I'm sick of baby sweaters, I must say that I still love the yarn!

Well, I never have finished the Moderne Baby Blanket. However, I did manage to get 3 burp towels and 3 bibs done for my friend Brenda. She had her little girl last week and is loving the burp cloths.

Well, this is annoying. Here in the northeast corner of the USA, it is so hot and humid that it is impossible to sleep! And instead of sleeping, what do I do? Look up different knitted items for two straight hours. I mean, who knew how many different types of knitted cupcakes that people have made? I didn't.
And from knitted cupcakes, I went to knitted minature food to knitted toys to thinking about what sort of people I would make once I learned how to knit a toy. My friends, co-workers, and f… Continue

I'm just getting used to bloging, I've never done it before, so if I make any goofs...please forgive me.
I'm trying to swatch for a baby sweater I want to give to a new daddy at work, but I'm having a problem with gauge. The pattern calls for a dk weight and I have this really yummy worsted ... so I'm still swatching.
I went to an estate sale a couple of weeks ago at a house of a knitter. There were huge storage bins and trash bags full of yarn, also a few started and almost done projects it w… Continue
