When life gives you snow, make mittens!

Okay, so I only made one mitten when I was snowed in at home last week, but it's all a part of the plan. You see, I've long admired all the cute colorwork mitten patterns out there, but I don't wear mittens (or know anybody gift-worthy who does). I'm a devoted glove gal because of what I… Continue

Down to the Wire

It was close, but I made it! My sister got a finished Positano Tote under the tree. She did see it ahead of time, though, because we were snowbound together at my house. I finished it the morning of the 23rd, right before we packed up to make the long trek to our… Continue

Hi,

I'm sorry I didn't get to post the winners on Monday!!! We got so much snow in Washington that we had to close our offices! I'm actually in North Carolina right now visiting my family for the holidays, but I knew you guys were waiting on me, so I logged on to post a quick update.

We had so many entries for Amused, that we decided to pick 3 Amused winners! Here they are:

Holiday fun, and still the work gets done!

Yesterday was our Holiday Party! As Christy said, it was a blast, what with hilarious gifts being exchanged and lots of good food. Even though she stole my bag of Comfy, I still made out well.

I wasn't going to jump on the cookie decorating contest at first, but well, I can't stay uncreative for too long! So I grabbed a cookie and some intensely bright frosting and put down on that cookie what had been… Continue

Holiday Christmas White Elephant and Cookie Contest

Well I know you all think we have fun everyday because we get to work with yarn and knit, but this was our "real" fun for the holidays. The Knit Picks gals joined up with the marketing and the IT group to have a little release. So we had a potluck, cookie decorating contest and white elephant gift exchange and thankfully the snow didn't fall yesterday so we could all be there to enjoy it. Here are some of the highlights...

Here is the cookie table before we all got started.… Continue

Colorful rovings waiting for the New Year

This is a much less romantic view of my hand-dyed rovings but I thought it would be good to record the process. Notice how I have already started 'fluffing" up the golden roving on the right. Once the tops of the dangling rovings were dry, I couldn't resist!

A Great Learning Stocking!

Yeah, I finished in time for the holiday! Since this is my daughter's first official Christmas I had to make her a stocking (last year I cheated and bought a little Baby's 1st since she was only 8 mos old). So I searched the web for some stocking ideas and found… Continue

Hurried Gift Knitting

As soon as I saw the Winter 2008 issue of Interweave Knits, I knew I had to knit the Positano Tote for my sister - for Christmas! Yikes! My yarn, Wool of the Andes in Amber Heather… Continue

Sock yarn special delivery!

Packages are slowly starting to arrive from our vendors with some of the new spring yarns. I couldn't resist sneaking a peek at the new colors of Felici and Risata. That's a photo I snapped of a box of Felici we just opened. I didn't… Continue

I Love Spin-Off Magazine

I know I've talked about Spin-Off before, but Winter 2008 is a particularly appealing issue. You don't have to be a spinner to appreciate the fiber information, excellent patterns and inspirational articles. This issue focuses on color. The article on managing color as you spin was particularly dangerous! The basic concept is how to work with two colors of roving, as… Continue

Knitting and spinning supplies for Australia

Last Sunday I laid out clothes for our trip. Having gotten the "boring" task out of the way, I enthusiastically contemplated what fiber-related projects to take with me. I knew I wanted to take my Spinsanity spindle and my… Continue

Hot Water Bottle Cover Pattern

Kelley has always extolled the merits of hot water bottles, and I didn't pay much attention for a long time. I thought they were old fashioned and maybe even a little frivolous. Hah - well, now I know better. I finally caved in a bought one and now I love, love, love… Continue

Road Trip Knitting

Over Thanksgiving, my parents and I drove down to visit my sister in San Jose. It's about 11 hours each way, so that meant lots of knitting time. I took along my mindless, feels-so-soft, comfortingly warm garter stitch afghan in the Bayou color of… Continue
